Overall By Geraldine York Eunice Monroe had as her guests for the week-end her brother and his wife, Mr and Mrs. James Kil- linsworth. Mr. Killinsworth is in the Navy and is stationed in Nor folk, Va. Mamie Garner her husband and friends attended a football game at the University of North Caro lina where her son, Freddy, is a senior. Hattie Bray gave her mother, Sarah Jane Hall, a birthday dinner October 21. Dolores Myers and husband are sporting a new automobile. We wish to welcome to our de partment this month; Nora Lee Hobbs, Maxine Beck, Betty Isen hour, I’eggy Grant, and Evelyn Hunt. We hope their stay will be a long and pleasant one. We also say “welcome” to some of our girls who have been work ing with the dungaree department but are now back with us. Virginia Beal and family spent a week-end in Greensboro visiting relatives. She reports they also did some shopping. Williard Hussey and a brother, Desmond, of Asheville, attended a football game at Chapel Hill. Violet Hobson’s granddaughter, Sandra, celebrated her fourth birthday. Virginia Hodges’ son, Howard, is now home from Korea. Evelyn Hunt, one of our new girls, reports that her baby is much better, after being ill for some time. Annie Epps had as her guests on a recent week-end her sister, Mrs. N. C. Poterfield of Morrisville along with her niece and her hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Carri- gan of Durham. Dungaree Margaret McAllister This is your new reporter, Mar garet McAllister. 1 hope you enjoy reading this column. Cpl. Vic Richardson a former Anvil Brand employee, wishes to send his greetings to all of his friends here. After completing his present training, he expects to be sent overseas. Ethel Younts celebrated her birthday in style here at the mill. She received a cone of gum, a birthday cake which was enjoyed by everyone, and several bars of candy. Myrtle Riteh also received a cone of gum, ice cream and a coke. It is a tradition in this de partment to present everyone who has a birthday with a cone of penny balls of chewing gum. Jewel Easter and family recent ly spent a week here visiting rel atives. She is a former employee, and is a sister to Margaret McAl lister. At present she is living at Broad Creek Village in Norfolk, Va. Overheard in a local department —two girls were talking about present fads, and one remarked: “I'm going to start buying all my clothes at Tobias’, and start smok ing, too.” Seems Pat Brown is spending lots of week-ends at the beach, fishing. She holds herself proud, since she catches the biggest fish, and when fishing with men, no less. We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Lorraine Pearson. Her giandmother, Bette Tysinger Wishan died October 27. We’re glad to have Mary Lane back again. She has been on the sick list for the past six weeks. Imagine Mrs. Sledge, formerly Reva Smith, getting married in May and keeping it a secret until t October. Wonder how people can keep such big events a secret? Dot Webster and her husband spent last week-end here visiting Howard and Judy Hendren. Dot is a former employee. A son, William Richard was born to Bevelee Atkinson on Octo ber 30. We’re sorry to hear that Billie Williams’ mother is in the hospital. Hope she will soon be well. Irene and Elsie McGee spent the week-end in Miami, Fla., visiting Elsie’s boy friend’s parents. Sounds serious to us. Bertha Chatham spent the week end at Norwood, visiting her brother, Thomas Beeson. Our deepest sympathy goes to Charlene Smith. Her grandmother, Mrs. Juliia Smith, died October 115. Dungaree By Ramona Haney Ludie Mae and Jay Ingram and daughter, Naticy, spent a reccnt week-end in the Blue Ridge Moun tains. Ann Saintsing has returned to work from New York City. She says she had a wonderful time there. Rachel Earnhart is ill and on leave of absence from our depart ment. We hope she will soon be well and back with us. We welcome Lila Lee Hyde to our department, and hope she en joys working with us here at An- (Continued on Page Six)
