JANUARY ISSUE SEW IT SEAMS Page Seven AT CHRISTMAS — Above are a few of the scenes in and around Anvil Brand during the Christmas season. Low'er right is a group in the Ladies’ Dept, just before they exchanged gifts. Left to right are Frances Wells, Peggy Whitt, Madge Burks, Judy Jones, Patsy Saunders, Rose Marie Kidd, Ethel Suttles, Gracie Branon, Ollie Trent, Ila Martin and Beverly Myrick. Lower left is the dinner at Independence when employees there celebrated in a gala- decorated room. Upper right is Charles Isenhour with his daughter, Virginia Dean, who underwent an emergency appendectomy a few days before Christmas. Charles’ co workers, however, brought Christmas cheer to Virginia when they took her gifts to the hospital. Bedroom shoes, pajamas, panties and funny books were presents from members of the Sport Shirt and Finishing Departments. Myrtle Jennings, Lystra Workman and Glenda Bowman took the gifts to Virginia at the local hospital. Upper left is a group of Overall Department girls having a gay time the day the plant closed for the holidays. Back row, Virginia Hodge, Winnie Osborne, Pauline Keck, Effie Bundy, Evelyn Jones, Mabel Johnson, Stella Hudspeth, Rosa Wilkerson and Alease Chapman. t Bonuses Given Newcomers Some $9,061.32 in bonuses was distributed to the some 1,000 An vil Brand employees in High Point and Independence, this last Christmas. This brought to $30, 000 the total amount of bonuses distributed by the company in 1955. This Christmas sum represents a week’s pay to plant employees who had been with the company five years or more. To each employee the company presented a double-bed size bed spread which proved quite a popular gift. A note from Presi dent R. C. Kirchofer brought Christmas wishes and greetings for the New Year. It appears nobody is ever going to shoot Santa Claus, but they sure don’t hesitate at working him to death. Ez Tike sez: “It is better to have loved a stort girl than never to have loved a tall.” Win Prizes The first Ladies’ Night of High Point Industrial Management Club was held in December when several Anvil Brand members won prizes which were given away as part of the program. Winners included Olive Fann, Esther Hughes, Mary Lou Atkin son, Betty Saltz, Clyde Nelson’s wife and Betty Bell’s husband. Dr. George Heaton, well-known minister and labor consultant was speaker for the evening and ❖ emphasized to the supervisors the importance of “personal in terest” in their employees. Earl Ward Dies Earl Ward, 53, died suddenly while al his job Monday, January 2. His death was attributed fo a heart attack. Earl had been with Anvil Brand approximately three years in the Maintenance Department. He is survived by his wife of Cedrow Avenue Extension and two daughters who live in Wins ton-Salem.
