Viola Draper has a new grand- baby which she is very proud of Mazie Edwards was so happy when her son-in-law called up to tell her she had a new grand- baby . . . Dorothy West’s father- in-law has been sick; hope he is feeling better. She recently had a fine visit with her parents in Raleigh. Ruth Welborn was out sick several days, but it’s good to have her back now . . . Lib Wel born has a new baby girl . . . Bet ty Saltz had a birthday; not try ing to say she’s getting older, just that she received a duster as a gift. Junior Hill gave Margaret a beautiful cedar chest for their anniversary . . . Virginia Over cash has had an operation but is at home now. Hope she soon will be back with us. Finishing at White By Katie Lee Sellers Hi there! Spring is just about here. Pemie Harvell visited the airport Sunday afternoon . . . Elsie Motsinger and family spent last weekend in Gastonia. The dictionary is the only place where success comes befor work. Overby Betty Perdue entertained rela tives at a supper in honor of her little daughter, Patricia, whose third birthday was Jan. 31 . . Ruth Whitesell’s mother is visit ing her while recovering from a recent operation. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Jackson of Max Meadows, Va., visited Bon nie Jackson and family last weekend. Leona Caudill and husband. Mack, visited in Salisbury during a recent weekend. We are glad to have Savannah Presswood back. She recently un derwent an appendectomy . • . The bowling team is on top, thanks to Frank (Wild Buck) Starrett and his gang of side bet ters. Now that the horse traiding season is in our chief trader, Doug (Brown Mule) Hooker has good, fair, poor and better mules, horses, cows and cats. He’s got some with one eye, three legs, blind ones, and one with three ears. The price is just right from $100 down to anything you’ve got. There'is other news, too. After six years of swapping words Tommy Kemp is going to take the fatal step, too. He said it was too late to back out now; the lit tle woman owns over half of him now. The wedding is planned for May. Good luck, old boy. Think that’s about it for now. See you next month. Guess some of you are won dering what happened to the news last month. It was mis placed somewhere along the line. So I will include it in with this month’s happenings. First of all we want to wel come our newcomers and hope they enjoy working with us. Also would like to welcome back Edna Warrell who has been out sick for quite a while . . . Also sorry to report Betty Evans is in the hospital and Betty Perdue is out on sick leave. If any of you girls have a flat tire, call Emma Charles. Saw her up on Main Street changing one the other day. Emma also is try ing to give the men a little com petition. She’s taking shooting lessons at the YMCA. She shouldn’t have any trouble threading a needle when she can hit a bulls eye. Irene Dollar recently attended her nephew’s wedding . . . Con gratulations to Betty and Jay Bell, they were married nine years Feb. 7 . . . Gertrude Shef field should be proud of her daughter, Bobbie. She was chos en valedictorian of her class at Allen Jay High School this year. Mildred and Tommy Reece trad ed for a ’53 IFord. Mildred says she really likes it . . . That spe cial gleam in Ludie Mae’s eyes is for her daughter, Nancy. She made the Dean’s List at High Point College. Nancy is majoring in religion and education. We are glad Thelma Smith’s mother is home from the hospi tal feeling better . . . Bea Jen nings recently went to Virginia to see about her furniture which was damaged by fire. Hope it wasn’t bad, Bea. We are also glad to welcome back Gloria Leonard . . . Betty and Jay Bell spent a recent weekend in Statesville . . . We are glad that Willie Cecil’s little boy is feeling much better and is out of the hospital. Elaine Newton gave her moth er, Ruth Newton, a surprise birhtday party recently.
