It is a healthy situation, too, when millions of people are en abled first hand to see and judge the personalities of the candi dates, and to hear presentations of the issues from accredited speakers. In the heat of a con vention atmosphere, praise of one's own side can become ex travagant and reproach for the opposing side is often intemper ate. But in the lealm of political conflict we, as voters, are sup posed to season what we hear with our own grains of salt! However, it is an arresting thought that one of these party platforms and one group of nom inees will have an important bearing on our well-being, on out actions, and on our very lives for the next four years. Which one will be deteimined this coming November. Think how a political adminis tration affects us these days, far beyond the bounds of government alone. Policies and practices orig inating in Washington influence international peace, science, in dustry, education, agriculture, business and a host of other so cial and economic activities which touch the private and personal interests of everyone in the na tion. And what will you do about assuring good government? Of course the first step to what you do is to register for voting The next step is to vote. Never should we surrender this privi lege of personal independence which was won for us by our ancestors of 180 years ago.
