Page Ten SEW IT SEAMS NOVEMBER ISSUE Thirteen Receive Awards Last week in three different departments in Anvil Brand plants a very special ceremony took place. Ont person in each of these departments was honored by management as “25- Year Employees” and Mr. Jack Rives, assistant to the execu tive vice-president, brought congratulatory remarks from the company. atrice Craven, all of whom have been with the firm 20 years. Ila Whicker received a 15-year pin. She was not present when the photographs were made of those who received awards. t Also the three were presented handsome gold watches, engraved with their name and the Anvil Brand emblem. Achieving the 25-year 'mark were Miss Louise Welch of Sherrod Office, Mrs. Hattie Bray of Overall and Wiley Green Clary, mechanical department. Louise has had experience in several departments in the company and now is senior clerk in charge of the ticket office at Sherrod. She lives at 1600 John son Street. Mrs. Bray has worked in Over all the entire time she has been with the company and Mr. Clary has been in the mechanical de partment throughout his 25 years with the firm. Mrs. Bray lives at 2104 Baltimore Avenue and Mr. Clary at 1304 Worth Avenue. Employees who this year marked 15 and 20 years with the company were given pins, with a ruby centering the 15 year em blems and a diamond the 20-year pins. Four persons at Sherrod re ceived pins. They included J. W. Ingram, Hattie Bizzell and Be- In the Overall Department Sa die Hedgecock and Ella Rook were presented 20-year emblems and in Sport Shirt Jessie Fritts and Flossie Hines were given 15- year pins. Two salesmen qualified for 15- year emblems; Joe Macklin of Delaware and Dick Robatham of New Jersey. OVERHEARD Here is another report of poli tical conscience that comes direct from Washington. The hostess was entertaining a political in cumbent, and gushingly re marked, “You know. I’ve heard a great deal about you.” The politician replied, absent ly, “Possibly, but you can’t prove anything.” Happy Thanksgiving, Anvil Brand! (MY LOSS WILL BE YOUR “GAIN!”) CHAPMAN FRITH BOWERS Vernie L. Bowers, 35, has been promoted to Supervisor of Production in Shipping, according to an announcement from the Personnel Department. Two other employees also have been assigned to new positions. Joyce Chapman has been made Time Study Technician in the Engineering Department and Azzlea Frith has assumed Joyce’s job as Assistant Training Director. Vernie first came with Anvil Brand in 1939. He then served four years with the Air Force in World War Two and returned to the company in 1946 and has been here con tinuously since that time. in other phases of engineering. Joyce is married to Dallas Chapman who is with the local Post Office. Azzlea returned to Anvil Brand several months ago after living in Europe with her husband for two years. They have one son who is 13. Azzlea and the son are living at 801 Arch St.; her husband is stationed at Ft. Ben- ning, Ga. The father of twin sons, Donnie and Ronnie, who are three years old and Linda, who is five, Vernie is married to the former Wanda Ellison. They make their home on East Homestead Avenue. Joyce has been with Anvil Brand nine years. In her new po sition, which is a newly-created job in Engineering, she will take time studies and establish incen tive values and also will assist Thanksgiving Is Holiday Thanksgiving Day and the fol lowing Friday will be holidays for Anvil Brand employees. Offices of the company will be closed only Thanksgiving Day. FIRST MAN Inquired the Sunday school teacher of her class: “Who was the first man?” “George Washington,” prompt ly announced a restless boy. “Oh, no,” corrected the in structor, with an amused smile. “Well, then, I suppose it was Adam,” muttered the boy; “if you’re counting them foreigners.
