Independence Plant Awarded Certificate For Safety Record The Anvil Brand plant at Independence recently received a Certificate of Merit from Liberty Mutual, honoring the em ployees for operating 216,800 hours without a disabling in jury. The award covered the period from July 20, 1954 to June 8, 1956. J. R. Clear, senior safety engineer for Liberty Mutual, in a letter to W. A. Hussey, superintendent of the Independence plant, stated: “You and your employees can take justifiable pride in this example of a job well done. Too often, most people seem to expect accidents as a normal part of their job, but certainly this record shows that accidents can be eliminated completely from the industrial scene.” In addition to the certificate each employee also received a quarter-pound box of chocolates from the company. «> Allen Banner Dies Suddenly Allen W. Banner, husband of Hattie Banner, supervisor at Sherrod, passed away suddenly at their home Saturday, Novem ber 3. Mi. Banner was 53 years of age and was connected with Boiden Milk Co. In the old days, if one missed a stage coach he was content to wait a couple of days for another. Now we let out a squawk if we miss one section of a revolving door. Beauty is the only thing time cannot harm. Philosophies fall away like sand, and creeds follow one another like withered leaves of autumn, but what is beautiful is a joy for all seasons and a pos session for eternity. —Oscar Wilde. an»il jSraittt.
