Dr. Howard Chidley Speaks Here; Honored By Dormitory Men The Men’s Dormitory Council at North Carolina College hon ored Dr. and Mrs. Howard J. Chidley, noted New ‘England Philanthropist here onday after noon, January 25. North Carolina College’s mil- lion-dollar Howard J. Chidley Dormitory for Men is named for the New England minister who has been a friend and benefac tor of North Carolina College since the college was founded in 1910. Dr. Chidley delivered' two ad dresses at the college on Mon day and Tuesday. In Chidley Hall ceremonies Monday night, William Bulow, president of the Dormitory Council, served as master of ceremonies. Among the partici- pantg were Michael Hinton, Tho- Uubert Walters, )u iteid, Alice Gray and Er nest King. An informal discussion was held on the topic “The Role of Dormitory Councils in Dormi tory Living.” Discussants in cluded Vera Williams, presi dent, and Portia Key, vice presi dent, Annie Day Shepard Dor mitory; Emma Bullock, presi dent, and Paula Bennett, vice president, McLean Dormitory; Audrey Flamer, president, and Georgia McCoy, vice president, Rush Hall; and Willie B. Parry, president and Martha Blanks, vice president. Senior Dormi tory. Also included on the panel were four representatives from the Senior House Counselors. They were Thelma Melvin, Kathryn Caldwell, LaVie Griggs and Rebecca C. Murray. The Market Research Coxmcil of New York today annotmced the establishment of National Student Awards in Marketing Research. The awards will be made annually to under-gradu ate students in recognized col leges and universities in the continental United States. Their sole purpose is to encourage in terest in the study of market ing research. The prizes offered are 5 cash awards of $100.00 each, and 10 cdsh awards of $25.00 each. Each award will be accompanied by a Certificate of Merit to the nominating instructor. As an ad ded award, one of the students winning one of the 5 principal awards will be invited to attend a special meeting of the Market Research Council in New York City, at which he will be their special guest, with all expenses paid. Over twenty professors teach ing the subject in colleges and universities from coast to coast helped the Awards Committee design the plan so it will be most effective in bringing the subject more importantly to the attention of students and incre ase the enthusiasm of classes.
