W. Younge here recently. The Eagles open their rigorous schedule with Virginia State College’s Trojans Deecember 3 in Durham. In addition to the twenty regular Cental Intercollegiate Athletic Association contests, NCC will play in the Holiday Festival Tournament, Winston- Salem, and lock horns with the rugged Camp Lejeune Marines in three contests. Having lost Captain Hubie Williamson and “Pete” Jones from last year’s aggregation, which posted a 14-11 record, NCC boasts of eight returning lettermen and a couple of stur dy freshmen. Lettermen expected to greet Coach Floyd H. Brown include William “Gus” Jones, Joseph Parker, Ted , Manning, Richard Clyburn, Albert Conner, Curtis Watkins, Clarence Stewart, and William Grant. He played high school foot ball under Russell Blount, now football coach at Durham’s Hill side High School. He was an outstanding per former in football and track at Saint Augustine’s from 1949 to 1950, serving as co-captain of the football team and earning all-conference recognition as a center in 1949. Later, as a member of the U. S. Army, he played end on serv ice teams. He was recipient of the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, and the Bronze Star for action in Korea. He received his B.A. degree from Saint Augustine’s College, and his M.A. degree from Co lumbia University and has stud ied further at Indiana Univer sity. Before entering college ranks, Quiett worked on the high school level, coaching two cham pionship teams in Georgia and one undefeated team in Florida, compiling an overall six-year record of 46-13-4.
