The teachers enrolled are primarily teachers of biology and mathematics in grades 7 through 12. Most are from North and South Carolina. Four courses are offered, two in biology and two in math ematics. Faculty members include Dr. Michael |. Phillip, assistant professor of biology. Whiting announce the receipt of the check from the foundation this week. $66,300 GRANT MADE BY NSF North Carolina College has received a $66,300 grant from the National Science Foundation for a three-year program of improvement of the school's physics curriculum. ■The grant will provide for course and curriculum studies in the physics department, for instructional scientific equipment, and for the salary of a laboratory technician to maintain and operate the equipment. Dr. Angelaurio Soldi, chairman of the college’s physics department, will direct the program, which is under the auspices of the NSF's College Science Improvement Program. The program is slated to end by June 30, 1971. Faculty members will be involved in the study of the courses and curriculum. In the department’s application for the grant, Dr. Soldi described the current program as one of which the school can be proud, but said the physics program needs improvements which will permit students to begin their studies in physics sooner, permit the teaching of the special mathemat ical tools of physics, and offer a curriculum not designed specifically for the professional physicist.
