Render Attends NCTE Meeting Dr. Sylvia Lyons Render, NCCU professor of English re presented the university at the annual meeting of the National Council of Teachers of English in Atlanta November 26 to 28, Dr, Render, wlio serves on the orpniitation's Committee on the Literature of Minority Groups in the United States, also attended a pre-convention November 23-25, That session dealt with "Tlie Deep South in American Literature,” One of the authors to be given •special attention at the early session was Charles Waddell Chesnutt. Tlie committee endorsed the idea and agreed to provide support in any way they could. Dean Lennon contacted the Durham Redevelopment Com mission and requested tliat one of tlieir houses be leased to this group. The Commission ap proved the leasing of the house at 516 Nelson Street across from the Student Union Building in NCCU’s campus. After several discussions which included com munity citizens and NCCU stu dents, a name for the organi zation was decided upon; it was to be called “Citizens United Against Drug Abuse." Kenneth Beckford was elect ed to serve as executive director; Cliurles Davis, deputy director; and Willie Finch, Jr., treasurer. A list of names was presented from whicli to select a board of directors. After contacts with persons recommended, tire board was diosen to handle the affairs of the organization.
