iliary Conference met, in conjunction
with the American Hospital Associa
tion, in Atlantic City Sept. 19-22.
Our representatives were Mrs. Julian
Kuffin, our President, and ]\Irs. Sam
Harjier, cur Executive Secretary.
Here are two dates to put on your
calendar:
October 25—Annual meeting; guest

December 2—TV Series on Sta
tion WTVD “Your Community,”
This series presents musical and dra
matic talent from the Durham-Chapel
Hill area plus interviews by Mrs. Se-
mans with persons who are makinj'
significant contributions to the com
munity. This particular program
will feature the presidents of the
1hree lo;‘al hospital auxiliaries: Watts,
Lincoln, and Duke.

of brief reports on the various serv
ices and committees of your Aux-
liary. Herewith is an account of the
recent activities of the Membership
(.'ommittee.
^Membership records have taken on
a new look with members’ cards filed
according to services, and with each
service denoted by a different colored
card. Any member working on more
than one service will have a record
c ard for each service. Service sched
ules will be posted on the bulletin
board on colored sheets corresponding
to the colors of the service record
cards.
Membership lists have been care-
ftilly reworked, and every effort will
be made to keep them up to date. The
active list represents only those per
sons who actually give hours of serv
ice; the inactive list only those who
show their interest by paying inactive
dues. All persons on both lists will
receive notices of meetings, Tnter-
(?om, and any other Auxiliary com
munications.

Physiology and
Pharmacology
Dr. F. G. Hall, Dr. K. B. Penrod,
and Jlrs. June Barker attended the
American Physiological Society meet
ings in lioston during the week of
Sept. 5 through Sept. 9.
There are two new employees in
the department—]\Irs. Cerda Kling-
man and Mrs. LeGrande Bell. They
are technicians in Dr. Coodall’s lab
oratory. Mrs. Klingman comes to
Duke from the Medical College of
Virginia and Mrs. Bell from Quit
man, Ga.
Reeves Alphin, a graduate student
in physiology, and Barbara Gilliam,
who was an intern here in pharmacy,
were married on Sept. 4. They are
now living in C'hapel Hill.—Sue
Gaines.
Medical Illustration
Thomas R. Webster accepted a
position as medical photographer at
Bowman Gray Medical School in
Winston-Salem as of Sept. 1.
Thurnuui Ellis joined the Medical
Illustration staff as a medical photog-
ra[)her the first of September.
A. C^. Webster has returned from
the Biological Photographers Asso
ciation held in JFilwaukee, Wise.
Those who have taken tlie trip to
Saturn this summer at the Morehead
IManetarium in Chapel Hill may not
be aware that the panorama which is
lu’ojected on the dome to portray
scenes on various moons, was jiainted
by Bob Blake, a medical illustrator
here in the hospital. Bob has been
painting for the Planetarium for some
time and will continue to do so.

Surgery
Mrs. Agnes Goswick had the mis
fortune of falling Sunday, July 31.
As result, had a fractured knee and
had to be hospitalized.
Mrs. Floride Bock and her husband
snent a week’s vacation in New' York
City.
Mrs. Janice Torrance, who returned
to do relief work for several weeks,
leaves to join her husband. Ralph D.
Torrance, commissioned Marine of-
fi"er at Quantico, Va. They will re
side in Fredericksburg, Va.
It is with rerret that Duke Hos-
nital lost Mrs. Prances Webster and
husband, Tommy. They are residing
in Winston-Salem, where her husband
is connected with Bowman Gray
School of Medical Arts.

New Mexico, where he will be a pro
fessor of history.
Miss Lucy Harms has just returned
from vacationing in New Jersey visit
ing her sister and family.
Miss “Kitty” Brunson joins the
Compensation and Liability Office.
Miss Beth Toms spent her vacation
in Houston, Texas.
^liss Susie Upchurch spent a week
end at Myrtle Beach.
Mrs. Michael Goldner of St. Peters
burg, Fla., is visiting her daughter,
^Irs. Carrie Weiss.
;\Irs. ^laiy Ruth Mebane and hus
band visited at ilyrtle Beach.
R. N. ('renshaw and family en
joyed a delightful vacation at Vir
ginia Beach. At a later time he and
family extended their vacation to
Western (’arolina (fishing, moinitain
climbing, aiul seeing Horn of the
West).
Jliss Alma Wiggs was married to
Charles Hall, Jr., Saturday, Sept. 10
at Christian ^Missionary Alliance
Church at 7 :30 p.m.
The three girls who joined Dr.
Pickrell’s office are Jackie Cooley,
Sylvia Pope, and Barbara Blackburn.
Miss Henrietta ^Iclver visited
friends at Duke Hospital last week.
She will be teaching in Public School
