He doesn’t hesitate to entrust important duties to his staff members —after having carefully selected the right person for a particular job— and he would rather have that person make a wrong decision than make no decision at all. ‘‘A New American Colt” Dean Davison was born in Grand Kapids, Mich., in 1892, the son of a Jlethodist minister. He received the A.B. degree from Princeton in 1913, followed by study at Oxford Universi ty, England, as a Rhodes Scholar. Dean Davison received the B.A. and B.Sc. degrees from Oxford and later the M.D. from Johns Hopkins. In 1917 he was married to Atala Thayer Scudder of Glen Head, Long Island, to whom he had been engaged while she was at Bryn Mawr and he was at Princeton. l\Irs. Rose Pendergrass and Pauline Mc- Caskill were elected co-chairmen for the Administrative-Paculty Group! Duke is always well represented at meetings, w'orkshops, etc. Margaret Miller has charge of the program in Fayetteville Jan. 24-25 during the Workshop on In Service Education. New nurse anesthetist students who began the 18 months’ course Jan. 14 are Miss Peggy Johnson, Kingsport, Tenn.; Miss Patricia Olinder, Sche nectady, N. Y.; Miss Ruth Russell, Washington, Ga.; Miss Jo Ann Schultz, Harrison, Ohio; Miss Kath leen Stenger, Erie Penn., and Miss Audrey Wewe from Cedar Grove, Ind. Dr. Stephen spoke before the meet ing of the American College of Sur geons on Jan. 5 in the Engineering Building. Mrs. Glenn White, returned to work Jan. 12 following the birth of a daughter, Stephanie Lynette, in Nov ember. Dr. Sara Dent returned to work Jan. 14 following surgery in October. Dr. and Mrs. Stephen were in Phila delphia Jan. 18-20 to attend the an nual meeting of the Association of Uiuversity Anesthetists. Dr. Leonard W. Fabian attended the Symposium on Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Medi eval College of Virginia in Richmond Jan. 23-25. After Jan. 28 Dr. M. Bourgeois- Gavardin’s new address will be 2414 Perkins Road. The following completed the course in anesthesiology Dec. 31, Dr. W. B. Timmerman in private practice in Charlotte, North Carolina; Dr. A. Magee in private practice in Lexing ton, Ky., and Dr. Annabelle Crad dock who received a Fellowship for Research in Anesthesia and will re main at Duke for an additional year.
