Mrs. Carol Riley has been ap
pointed Assistant Medical Artist to
replace Mr. Paul Fairchild, Medical
Artist, who resigned to accept the

School of Medicine.

Miss Louisa Rogers has joined the
Department as a Casework Super
visor for the Surgical, Pediatric and
Obstetric Services. Miss Rogers
worked on the Prevention of Pre
maturity Project sponsored by the
II. S. Children’s Bureau in the Uni
versity of Colorado General Hospital,
Denver. P’or the past five years Miss
Rogers has been on the staff of the
IMedical School at Vanderbilt Uni
versity, the institution from w’hose
School of Social Work she received
her Master’s degree.
PROFESSIONAL NURSE TRAINEESHIPS AWARDED. The Division of Nursing Re
sources of the U. S. Public Health Service has awarded five pre-bachelor traineeships worth
$2,400 each to Tanya Tillett, Kitty Hawk; Anne L. Whitley, Concord; Barbara Hudak,
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; and Marguerite Thain, Skyland; shown above with Mrs. Edith Brocker
of the Duke University School of Nursing as they registered for classes; and to Eileen
Sullivan, Hempstead, Long Island, N. Y., who was not present when the picture was made.
In addition, Mrs. Violet Walters, also absent from the picture, holds a $1,400 trainee^^
ship for one semester. Mrs. Walters is working toward her B.S. in Nursing EducatioiS^^
Recipients of the traineeships were selected by the Duke University School of Nursing.
The grants are part of a nationwide program designed to prepare more nurses for teaching
and administrative duties in nursing schools and for positions as supervisors and nursing
service administrators in hospitals and public health agencies.

Mrs. Arleen Hodosh, Mrs. Kathe
rine Tindall and Miss Frances Atkins
are jiew employees. Arleen hails from
Los Angeles, Califoriua. She was re
cently married to Mr. Stewart Ho
dosh, a first-year medical student at
Duke. Katy is the wife of Dr. George
Tindall. Frances, who attended
Salem College last year, has becji
working in the Private Medical Lab
