Page 8 Duke Hospital, InterGom Physiology and Pharmacology Welcome to Dr. Jack Kostyo, As sistant Professor; Dr. John Salzano, Assistant Professor; and Mrs. Betty Farmer, Secretary to the Department. The good wishes of the Department go with Walter Davis who retired July 31 after eleven years’ service as janitor in the department. Private Medical Laboratory Mrs. Rosa Lee Goldston has been employed in the laboratory since July 21. She is the wife of William R. Goldston, a first-j^ear medical stu dent at Duke. Mrs. Mary Frances Meyers, a new medical technology student, will be in training in the lab for the next three months. Her husband is a Divinity student at Wake Forest Seminary. Microbiology Mrs. Hazel Hollander has replaced Mrs. Edith Renegar as secretary to Dr. N. P. Conant. Macon Moore Weaver has been employed as a tech nician with Dr. Conant. Mrs. Marion Smith, wife of Preston Smith in Medical PDO, has taken Mrs. Anna Price’s place in the vac cine lab. Psychiatry Welcome to our new secretaries: Mrs. Carol Gadbois, Marilyn Dent, Mrs. Patricia Parkhurst, Mrs. Linda O’Brien, Katharine Jones, Mrs. Penny Crowell and Mrs. Ida Ains worth. Mary Fuller Strange is in the department as one of the on-the-job secretarial trainees from Lees McRae College. Duke Hospital is sponsoring a rotation program for the training of medical secretarial students. Mrs. Doris Mooney has replaced Mrs. Joan Kuhns as clerk in the Out patient Clinic. Coming from the Air Force, Dr. Virgil M. Cox, Jr., joined the resi dent staff September 1. Anesthesiology Dr. Michel Bourgeois-Gavardin, for merly Associate Professor of Anes thesia, has taken over as Chief of Anesthesia at Watts Hospital. He win be replaced by Dr. William C. Xorth, who will arrive from North western University', Chicago, Novem ber 1. Dr. Paul R. Knox arrived August 1 from the U. S. Naval Hospital, Bethesda. He will be associated with the department for two years. Our maid, Clara Mae Allen, who graduated from North Carolina Col lege this summer, has been replaced by Ellen Bowling, also a student at North Carolina College. Pat Ramsey, who recently com pleted her course in the School of Anesthesia for Nurse Anesthetists, is a Staff Nurse Anesthetist in the de partment. Richard Conover, recent graduate of the course in Inhalation Therapy at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, Eliza beth, N. J., has been appointed Super visor of the Duke Inhalation Therapy Department. Welcome to new residents begin ning two years in the department: Dr. Charles Hartsell, Dr. Jere Roe, Dr. Paul Kemmerly, Dr. Thomas Col- lawn and Dr. Charles Maimbourg. Drs. Jean Quintal, Gerard Lavoie, Valdir Medrado and Charles Ramsey have recently left the department. Surgery Welcome to our new secretaries: Doris Byrd replacing Emily Raulston in Eye Clinic; Sylvia Sechler replac ing Marianne Widenhouse in Dr. Baker’s office. Marianne has moved to Wilmington. Robin Kramer has joined Judy Kenan in Dr. Arnold’s office. Carolyn W’^ise replaces Patty Lou Smith in Neurosurgery. Ellie Spada, technician in Dr. An- lyan’s lab, is proud of husband Bob— one of Coach Murray’s outstanding players. Physical Therapy Nine new students, three new staff members and all our returning vaca tioners are ready to start a new year in the department. James Chan and Betty Ussher have joined us as re search associates; Mr. Chan to work wdth the department of Pediatrics and Miss Ussher with the department of Surgery. Mrs. Shirley McCue also joined the department during the summer. John Riebel, who has been Coor dinator of Education for the past two years, has resigned to enter graduate school at Duke in the new Ph.D. inter disciplinary program in Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology.
