New Research Assistants: Stuart Wilson and Larry Thompson. Mr. Wilson and Mr. Thompson were both Psychology Interns in the Depart ment until Sej)tember 1. Personnel Office Welcome to Mrs. Marty Rawson and Mrs. Janice Minyard. Marty is filling our new position of Inter viewer. Janice is replacing Mrs. Leone Vestal, who is expecting her first baby in October. Nursing Service Ann Pace, a Duke University School of Nursing Graduate, has been appointed Operating Room Super visor. She is at present spending some time in visiting the operating rooms of several medical centers throughout the country. Miss Pace will return December 1, 1960. Dur ing the interim. Miss Overcash, grad uate of Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, Winston-Salem, is acting Supervisor. She has had post-gradu ate work in Operating Room at the University of Pennsylvania. Miss Overcash joined our staft' in October, 1958, and has had i)revious operating room experience at Baptist Hospital. Barbara Bain, graduate of the Duke University School of Nursing, has been appointed Acting Supervisor of the Medical Service, replacing Geral dine Bodie who is on leave of absence to attend Western Reserve University. Miss Bain has had considerable super visory experience and has just com pleted the Graduate program in Medi cal and Surgical Nursing at Duke. Physical Therapy At the end of July, Tom Clapper travelled home to Indiana with his wife, daughter Anne, and new baby, Linda (born July 5), for a visit be fore heading south to work in Orlan do, Florida. In August Jim Chan left for a vacation on Cape Cod be fore assuming his new position with the Maryland State Department of Health. With the opening of gradu ate school, ilartha Trotter terminated her full-time work with the depart ment and undertook graduate studies in Physiology. Rejoining the staff is Carolj'n Gibbs, 1957 Duke Physical Therapy graduate, after a year in New York on the physical therapy staff of the Hospital for Special Surgery. Hus band, Buzzie, is a resident on the medical staff. As a trainee for foreign lands, we have Leonor Lalinde from Cali, Colombia. On the 15th of September, Carolyn Burnett replaced Jim Chan as Research Associate as signed to Pediatrics. Carolyn is a native of Chicago with an A.B. de gree and Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Towa and an M.A. from Chicago. We also have a new secretary, Kay Toler, who comes from Rocky Mount. She is replacing Carolyn Roberts Avho resigned September 16 to await the stork. The 1960-61 Physical Therapy Class entered September 12. Of the thirteen students accepted ten are from southern states, two from Ohio and one from South Africa. Duke Hospital Durham, N. C.
