ice plant wliere most of tlie ice is made. Tliis monster
has been in operation for 30 years. At ])eak capacity it
can make 120 tliree-luiudi'ed pound cakes of ice every 24
hours! Kufus 15. Carr is one of the three oi)erators
reqnir(>d to man the ice-maker each day. This unit also
cools the walk-in i'(“frio;erators in the Dietary Depart
ment and the moroue. The cakes are trans])orted to the
hosi)itaI (and other buildings on campus which use ice)
in a specially desitrued panel truck. It is crushed in
the hosj)ital and delivered where needed in a stainless
steel truck that meets s])ecial health dej)artment I'equire-
inents. .Modern methods, however, will socm make this
fjiaiit obsolete. Smaller ice-cube makinj^ machines are
p:radually I'eplacino' this throughout the hospital.
