Duke Hospital, InterCom Page 7 Honor and Affection Mark Davison Tribute Set aside by the Medical (’enter and tlie University to ])ay tribute to Dr. W. ('. Davison, tiie seliedule of events October 4-8 was marked by a blendinp: of honor and affection. The central tiieme of the celebration was the symposium on The Common wealth of Children. The symposium program, arranged b.v Dr. Jerome Harris, included excellent speakers from a number of disciplines and from various parts of the world. It was designed for a lay as well as profes sional audience, and underlined Dr. Davison’s lifelong concern for the wel fare of children ever.vwhere. The extra-curricular highlight of the weekend was a dinner in the In door Stadium attended by 974 giests. Amid affectionate testimony to his work and influence in many areas, Dr. Davison was presented with gifts: from alumni and friends, a Duke blue Lincoln Continental, a check for .'t)7,()()() to be iis(‘d in tlie Medical School as Dr. Davison wishes, and a scroll of the donors’ names; and from the medical students, to estab lish a Davison Scholar program to al low one medical student a year to spend a (juarter in a foreign medical school. At a University convocation Dr. Davison received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws. At this convoca tion President Hart announced that by unanimous vote of the University Hoard of Trustees the medical school building will be named the Davison Building. The symposium concluded with Sunday morning Chapel service.
