Duke Hospital, InterGom Page 3 Key Appointments Dr. Janies B. Sidbury, Jr. Xanied to direct the Duke Medical Center’s new clinical research pro gram are: Dr. James B. Sidbury, Jr., director; Dr. Rubin Bressler, asso ciate director; and Miss Barbara Bain, nursing’ director. The clinical research program will cost approximately $3,361,000 during the first five years of operation. This sum includes itil,780,00() provided by tlie IJ. S. Public Health Service and private sources for the six-story Medi cal Center addition now under con struction to house the clinical re search unit; and Public Health Serv Announced for Clinics Dr. Rubin Bressler ice funds of $1,581,000 scheduled for sui)port of the unit during the next five years. Purpose of tlie unit is the intensive study of diseases and treatment methods. Dr. Sidbury, a former member of tlie pediatrics faculty at Johns Hop kins, will be x’esponsible for directing and coordinating all research efforts of the unit, lie holds, also, the facul ty position of associate professor of jiediatrics at Duke. A native of Wil mington, North Carolina, he is a graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. Research Program Miss Barbara Bain Dr. Bressler, boi-n in New York City, received liis M. 1). degree from Duke and during 1960-61 held an American Cancer Society research fellowshij) here. At present he is an associate in medicine at Duke. Miss Bain, is a native of (’olumbia, Missouri, and a graduate of the Duke School of Nursing. She was super visor of 0])erating rooms at North ('arolina Alemorial IIos])ital, (’hapel Hill, before joining the Duke staff in I960 as supervisor of the medical nursing service. Marv Poston A familiar figure in the corridors and laboratories of Duke Hospital is no longer with us. Mary Poston, oiu^ of the original nu'mbers of the micro biology teaching staff', died on December 18 after an illness of several weeks. A memorial service, conducted by Dr. James Cleland, was held in the Duke University Chapel on December 20. Miss Poston was born in Washington County, Marjdand. Reared and educated in Baltimore, Maryland, she studied bacteriology at Columbia Uni versity and Joiins Hopkins. Also, she earned the M.A. degree at Duke. The author and co-author of some 30 scientific publications. Miss Poston served several years as seeretary-treasurer of the Society of North Carolina Bacteriologists. She was honored in I960 l)y the Duke medical students, who dedicated their yearbook to lier. For a number of j^ears, Miss Poston devoted much of her leisure time to work with the Duke Hospital Auxiliary.
