ZJltU Tjkat Radiation Therapy (Continued from page 5) The training, or teaching is inte grated with the department of radi ology. Radiology residents rotate through the division of radiation ther apy and research for one year. Stu dents in the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing also receive training in the division by attending lectures, clinics, and conferences. At the present time, a post graduate training and fellowship program is being developed. On the research level, the division is conducting current studies de signed to increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy. One of Dr. Cava naugh’s primary interests is in the role which oxygen has in the effects of radiation. Oxygen is the only known substance which increases the effect of radiation on cancer while not in creasing its effect on normal tissue. In addition to Dr. Cavanaugh, the division of radiation therapy and re search is composed of Dr. Boyd T. Worde, assistant professor of radiol ogy, Miss Alice McRae, radiation physicist, and usually two or three residents in radiology, a nurse, two technicians, and a number of clerical workers.
