Duke University Medical Center, InterGom Page 5 From The Auxiliary by Peggy Warner As you have probably obset'ved, the Pink Smocks are having' one of their busiest fall seasons ever. It all seemed esjjecially worthwhile after the lovely dinner on Tuesday, Octo ber 27, wlieu the Hospital Adminis tration honored the active volunteers. This pleasant att'air included a s])len- did meal complete with shrimp cock tail and superb roast beef. The eve ning was topped off with an inspiring talk by Dr. Bayard Carter who had some thought-provoking comments for each of us on our role in the complex medical center Duke is to day. Our ])resident, Betty Leach, paid special tribute to our past presi dents. A sincere word of apprecia tion to Mr. Preuzel and the Hosj)ital Administration for a truly memora ble evening, and a thank-you, too, to our Membership chairman, Betty Bowers and her connnittee for han dling all the details which made the evening so beautiful. Election of officers for 1965 was the main order of business November 1!) at our Fall General Meeting. Xamed were: Mrs. Richard Leach, president; Mrs. Robert Colver, vice ()resident; Mrs. . Verl Reichenbach, secretary; Mrs.' Franklin Bowers, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Shel ton Smith, treasurer; and Mrs. John Everett, historian. Foremost among the Auxiliary’s fall projects has been the Annual Thanksgiving Food Sale under the capable direction of Mrs. Julian Ruf fin and her co-chairman, Mrs. Bayard Carter. The sale, held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving in the Main fjobby of the hospital, featured home- On October 27 the Duke Hospital Administration honored the active volunteers of the Auxiliary at a sumptuous dinner in the hospital. In the upper picture, Mrs. Richard Leach, Auxiliary president, presents to each of the past presidents of the Auxiliary an engraved silver bookmark. Pictured with Mrs. Leach are four charter members of the Auxiliary, who are also past presidents: Mrs. Julian Ruffin, Mrs. Shelton Smith, Mrs. Bayard Carter (first president), and Mrs. Alan Manchester. Arrangements for the dinner were under the direction of Mrs. H. Franklin Bowers, right in the second picture. Members of her committee, shown with her at the attractive hors d’oeuvre table, were: Mrs. Walker Holler, Mrs. Lawrence Monk, Mrs. Mary Daughtery, and Mrs. John Halderman. baked delicacies from the kitchens of Auxiliary members and friends. This year Brunswick Stew plate lunches were an added attraction. Three magnificent turkeys, contributions of three members of the faculty, along with three tempting food baskets, (Continued on page 6)
