A simulated student riot on the Duke University baseball field on May 19 sent Duke Hospital into its 7th annual Disaster Plan. Playing the role of casualties were freshman medical students and nurses. There were almost 100 “casualties” transported from the baseball field in University trucks to the Hospital’s emergency entrance where they were dispatched to the main dinmg room for registration, sorting and emergency care. From here “casualties” went to shock wards, pre-operative wards or to areas where they would await treatment. As many as 1,000 persons were involved in the plan. The entire operation was monitored this year by television cameras mounted at strategic points along the disaster route. The main receiver was in the Disaster Control Center so that officials could see the over-all effectiveness of the Disaster Plan. Commenting on the success of the operation, Donald S Smith officer in charge, said, “We were pleased to see that everyone got to his post so quickly and played his role so well.” ’ NEW ARRIVALS Congratulations are in order for Mr. and Mrs. Robert G.
