Dr. Jerome S. Harris First Sidbury Professor of Pediatrics J)r. Jerome S. Harris, Profes sor and Chairman of tlie Depart ment of Pediatries, has been selected the first J. Buren Sid bury Professor of Pediatrics. The distinguished professor ship was conferred by Dr. Dou"las M. Knight, Duke Presi dent, in evening ceremonies held October 12. The professorship, created from an endowment by Dr. Sid bury, was set up by the Duke trustees as a tribute to tlie Wil mington pediatrician who is con sidered one of North Carolina’s pioneers in the treatment of diseases of children. Dr. Harris joined the Duke faculty in 1937 and holds ap pointments in botli pediatrics and biochemistry. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Dr. Harris received his M.D. from llarvai’d iledical School and underwent additional training in hosj)itals in Boston, Chicago, and at Duke. He has conducted extensive research in metabolic diseases of cliildren and in pediatric cardi ology. At the present time he is a member of the Human Embry ology and Developmental Study Section of the National Insti tutes of Health. A portrait of Dr. Sidbury was presented to the medical center by Dr. Barnes Woodhall, Vice Provost of Medical Aifairs. The portrait was donated by Dr. Sidbury’s cliildren.
