Xouck TIME OUT FOR TEA NEWCOMERS in the departments of Dietetics, Nursing, and Occupational and Physical Therapy were honored at an open house the afternoon of October 6. The new staff members had an opportunity to meet with department heads and senior staff. Shown above enjoying the afternoon’s festivities are three new staff members in Nursing and Mr. Charles C. Physical Tliera- ))y has three new additions to its staff: Wendy Swann, Mrs. Genet Hutcheson (Trainee in Public Health) and Bill Schmidt who will be workin>: part-time while attending' N. C. State University at Raleigh. Mrs. Carol Francisco is a new clinic registrar in the Pedi atric OPC. Peter Palewski and Calvin Shaw are new Emergency Room registrars. Mrs. Joyce Crabtree is working jiart-time for Dr. Susan Dees. Mrs. Nancy Houston has joined tiie Medical Rec ord Library in the catalog de])artment. Beverly Burton, a grad uate of N. C. State University at Raleigh, has started a year’s training in the Cytology Laboratory. Mrs. Betty Elson from Dick son, Tennessee, is working in the Medical PDC’ in the patient ])ro- cessing area. Her husband is a medical student. Mrs. Nancy Wilson is a new secretary in the Department of Xeurology and Mrs. Sheila Robinson is a new secretary in the Dej)artment of Medicine. Lance Boe is a new tecliniciau in the Department of Surgery’s Electronics Instrument Shop. Carolyn L. Ray is a new research technician in Dr. Delford Stickel’s lab oratory. Cardiovascular Lab has a new secretary, Mrs. Janet Assini, whose husband is a law student aiul Mrs. Norryce Giordano has joined tlie Lab as a technician in the biociiemical and nuithe- nuitical areas. Mrs. Nicole Garthright is a new secretary in tlie Psychophysiology Lab and Mrs. Berit Nilson from Konvay and Mrs. Sarah Foss from Massachusetts are new technicians in the same lab. Their husbands are graduate students. Ttie Department of Psychiatry also announces that Mrs. Nancie Watson is now working with the Sensitivity Kesearcli Program and that Mrs. Judy Rowe is a Psycluunetry clerk in Dr. Jack Uotwinick’s lab. Maxine Kahn is now Dr. Bingham Dai’s secretary and Marilyn D. Reedy is a new social worker for the Psychiatric Inpatient De])artment. Miss Reedy received her B.S. degree from Florida State University and her Master’s degree from Tulane University and before coming to Duke was employed by the American Red Cross and worked at the U.S. Naval Hospital iii Charleston, S. C. Radiology welcomes Mrs. Drexel Smoak as a new file clerk, Mrs. Ann Hooper back to work after maternity leave, Mrs. Joan Rich ardson, R.T., from the Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, Sue Causey, H.T., from the University of Georgia Hos pital and John Hough, R.T., from Avon, Connecticut. Kay Cheshire, R.T., is now Assistant Supervisor in the main X-Ray Department and is in charge of Neuroradiology. Marion Ahbe, R.T., has been promoted to the position of Supervisor in Pediatric Radiology. The Hospital Business Office reports several new appointments and ])romotions. Gertrude Webb was appointed accounts ol^icer and assumed this new ])ost October 1. Mrs. Betty Dollar was pro moted to Miss Webb’s former ])osition of bookkeeping supervisor. Mrs. Ruby Haswell will now serve as machine records assistant su])ervisor, and Mrs. Jeannette Dickey will serve as reports assis tant .supervisor. Miss Gertrude Webb: Accounted an Asset Assets are classified in accounting terms as being “current” and “fixed.” A Hospital Business Office balance sheet would in clude ^liss Gertrude Webb in botli categories and convert these terms to appreciation for intelligent and energetic work over a period of 27 years, and exi)ression of reciprocal affection for a warm, friendly, and helj)ful personality, and pleasure that she continues as a permanent asset.
