Mrs. Robert Colver, president Mrs. Harold Silberman, vice president Auxiliary Elects New Leaders Mrs. Robert (Lela) Colver has been elected to serve as pres ident of the Hospital Auxiliary for the 196()-1967 year. She suc ceeds llrs. Kichard (Betty) Leach. In her new role as president, Mrs. Colver will serve as a co ordinating officer to see that Auxiliary matters run as smooth ly as possible. She will preside over the 150 active members of the Auxiliary and will work closely with the five elective and seven appointive officers on the Auxiliary Executive Board and the two full time Auxiliary em ployees, Mrs. Nancy Craven, of fice manager, and Mrs. Mary Daugherty, director of volun teers. A member of the Auxiliary since 1959, Mrs. Colver has giv en over 1800 hours of service. In addition to serving as vice president during the past year, she has chaired the nominating, finance and membership com mittees. A native of Kansas, Mrs. Col ver received her A. B. degree in history from the University of Kansas and taught in the Kan sas public schools for almost three years before leaving the state. -Mr. Colver is the assistant director of the Duke Universitj' Counseling Center. The Colvers have two sons, Robert and Charles, who are I)resently enrolled in their moth er’s alma mater—Robert is a sophomore and Charles a senior. Assisting Mrs. Colver will be Mrs. Harold (Audrey) Silber man, who has been elected to serve as vice president for the 1966-1967 year. Mrs. Silberman has been a member of the Auxiliary for three j-ears. As vice president, she will work directly with ]\Irs. ]\lary Daugherty, director of volunteers, and the chairmen of the following services: guide service, pediatric service, shop cart service, library service, host ess service and reception service. At the present time, she is involved in the coordination of the Auxiliary’s annual orienta tion course, which is conducted in eight two-hour sessions dur ing February and March. Mrs. Silberman’s husband, Dr. Harold Silberman, is an as- si.stant professor of medicine at Duke. The Silbermans have three sons: Andy, 10, ]\Iike, 7, and Matt, 2. ]\Irs. Silberman is a native of Maplewood, X. J., and attended Lasell Junior College in Au- burndale, Mass. Those serving with ilr.s. Keeping in Xouck • GLAD TO HAVE.. . Mrs. Sandra Powell has replaced Mrs. Gill Lunsford as Dr. Martin Lakin’s secretary for three months while Gill is in New York with her husband, Skip, who is training with IBM. Skip formerly worked in the Bursar’s office. Mrs. Susanna Stowell, whose husband, Jerry, is a medical student, is working as a tech nician for Dr. W. D. Obrist. Mrs. Patricia Puryear of Roxboro has replaced Julie McDonald as secretary in the Printing Depart ment. Mrs. Barbara Baker has joined the supervisory^ and senior Physical Therapy staflf. The Bakers moved here from Charlotte and Mr. Baker is service manager at Carpenter’s Chevrolet Com pany. Mrs. Sara Habercomb is a new technician in the Psycho physiology Lab and her husband, Mark, is a graduate student in the Chemistry Department. They come to Duke from Decatur, Alabama, where they were married in December. The Urology clinic announces the following new personnel: Mrs. Barbara Urban, LPN, Mrs. Marie Lawson, Saturday clinic secretary, Mrs. Shirlianne Costeo, R.N., and Mrs. Karen Griffin, bacteriologist. Mrs. Janice Pittman has transferred from the Private Medical Lab to the office of Mr. Louis E. Swanson where she will serve as secretary. Wesley Taylor has joined Medical Arts and Illustrations as a darkroom specialist. Carol A. Bowles has transferred from Medicine to Ophthalmology where she is secre tary to Dr. Arthur C. Chandler, Jr. New residents in Dermatology are Dr. Robert S. Gilgore and Dr. Stacey Miller. Susana Berry, originally from Texas and re cently from the N. C. Cerebral Palsy Hospital, has joined the staff of Occupational Therapy. Alice Brady has joined the Department of Radiology, transferring there from the Department of Surgery. Bill Sims is the new foreman of the Surgical Electronics Shop, Clara Vanderbilt has joined Medical Records as file clerk, Linda Renager from Pennsylvania is a new secretary in Neurology and Marleen Williams is a new clerk-typist in the Bell Building. • SOON TO WED ... Wendy Swann, Physical Therapy, is engaged to Fuller Honey cutt and their wedding will take place in J>nie. Dr. Robert A. Doyle, resident in Psychiatry, is engaged to Elizabeth Furman of Richmond and Newport News, Virginia, and they will be married on May 14 in Virginia. Carol Ruslan, stalf therapeutic dietitian, and Robert E. Bergen, senior in the School of Engineering, have announced their engagement and plan to be married on June 11. (Continued on page 8) Auxiliary Orientation Course The Hospital Auxiliary is again offering its annual orien tation course to interested active members of the Auxiliary. Members may come for the whole course or any part of the course. All active members are invited to participate.
