Published monthly by and for the staff of Duke University Medical Center, Box 335A, Durham, North Carolina. FROM THE DESK OF . . . CHARLES H. FRENZEL As the Medical Center continues to grow, internal com munications become more difficult and the need for an ef fective house organ becomes increasingly important. The nev' INTERCOM, introduced with this issue, will be publish ed monthly and will be designed to convey the most up-to- date information about happenings in the Medical Center. It is our plan to cover most of the news in brief in this publication and to leave the full coverage of major Med ical Center programs to a quarterly publication now being planned and yet to be named. I hope you will find the new INTERCOM interesting and informative and that its staff hears from you often. To provide direction to this and the quarterly publi cation, a new committee has been formed under the chair manship of George Mack, Administrative Assistant. George is a native of Detroit, Michigan, a graduate of the Univ ersity of Michigan and the Duke University Graduate Pro gram in Hospital Administration. Mrs. Spalding and Mr. Mack discuss the new INTERCOM Working with George Mack is the recently-arrived Public Relations Assistant, Mrs. Elaine Spalding. Along with her many other duties, she is Editor of INTERCOM, so INTERCOM'S new look is no coincidence. A native of New York, Elaine brings with her a wide background in publications, inclu ding National Geographic Magazine and Business Internation al. She attended the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, has travelled all over the US, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia and Russia.
