One of these is called Renovation Program I. It is a nine- part package plan totaling approximately $900,000. It's a package because it is being designed by an arch itectural firm. Six Associates of Asheville, T.C. Cook Engineers downtown, and the work is being done by the Muirhead Construction Company. The first of the nine parts is the renovation of Meyer, Drake, Cabell, and Welch (that's old Williams) wards. This part will cost about $615,000. The second part is the renovation of the existing X-ray department. Third, is the Photography Patient Studio, which will be moved from where it is now to a portion of the old Rad iology Department, in order to better coordinate patient service facilities. Number four is the chapel in the lobby. There was a delay in the plans and in getting the bid for the contractor, but the authorization has been given and work is now underway. Number five is the construction of a commercial bank where the old snack bar used to be. And six is Dr. Thier's Clinical Chemistry Lab, which is running a little behind schedule right now. The renovation of Welch Ward, which is called the Acute Care Unit is num ber seven. It combines seven acute care beds with the present Recovery Room. Number eight is the Heart Cath eter Lab, which is going to be put on the present Card iac Care Unit. And nine is the construction of new facilities for the Nuclear Medicine Division of Radio logy. The schedule for completion of these nine parts is flexible, but hopefully, Meyer Ward will be done some time in late February or early March; Welch next, then Cabell, then Drake, the last one of these being comple ted sometime in May. X-ray will probably be completed in late May, followed by Photography. Of course, all of these dates are subject to change, and INTERCOM will keep you posted. Clark Speaks at Auxiliary Luncheon On January 24th, Elon Clark, Professor of Medical Art and Coordinator of the Medical Art Facility of the Div ision of Audiovisual Education, spoke to the Women's Auxiliary at the Holiday Inn Downtown on "Medical Illus tration." He gave the history of his subject and des cribed the growth of this department at Duke using slides to show how the artist can aid the physician in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the pa tient . Besides Prof. Clark's talk, Mrs. Julian Ruffin in stalled the new Women's Auxiliary officers for the new year. Mrs. Harold Silberman installed as President, and on the official slate with her are Mrs. George Mad dox, Vice President, Mrs. Blaine Nashold, Recording Secretary, Mrs. Sherwood Githens, Corresponding Secre tary; Mrs. T.W.
