Radiologic Technology Takes Corner on “Honors Market” The Duke University Medical Center School of Radio logic Technology appears to have a corner on the "honors" market as three of its students have been recognized for outstanding achievement, while one staff member has been elected president of the North Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists. Cindi Campbell, a senior in Duke's School of Radiologic Technology and president of her senior class, was awarded the top prize for technical papers in student competition at the annual meeting of the North Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists held recently in Greensboro. Cindi Campbell Two junior students, Ann Hough and Kay Johnson have been invited to present their naper entitled "Pediatric Cardiology" at a meeting of the American Society of Radiologic Techno logy in New Orleans. Eric Porter, assistant chief radiologic technologist, was chosen oresident-elect of the North Carolina Soc iety at its annual meeting in Greensboro. Mrs. Janet Lynch, who works on Sims Ward, has been nominated "Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year" by area #14 of the North Carolina LPN Association for her outstanding contributions to her profession and the LPN Association during the past year, A native of Louisburg, N.C., Mrs. Lynch is a graduate of the Durham Technical Insti tute School of Practical Nursing. She has been em ployed at Duke since 1962. Before joining the Sims Ward staff Mrs. Lynch worked on Holmes Ward. An active member of the North Carolina LPN Associa tion since her student days, Mrs. Lynch was appointed chairman of area #14 for providing programs for the State Convention which was held in Durham May 2 through 4. She is a member of the nominating committee and assisted in the prepara tion of data for convention delegates. Mrs. Lynch is a member of St. Matthais Episcopal Church in Louisburg and spends most of her off-duty hours gardening and caring for her daughters Princess, 15, and Estella, 10. The Intercom salutes Mrs. Janet Lynch for her outstanding achievements. McClees Assumes New Position Mr, Cecil C. McClees, Assistant Director of Person nel at Duke University Medical Center since Julv 1965, will be assuming new respon sibilities in the entire university complex as Employ ee Relations Supervisor. This position is a newly cre ated one, and its duties will be concerned with the further development of employee-em- ployer communications and relations at Duke University. After attending Duke Univ ersity, Mr. McClees served in the Air Corps for four years gaining the rank of Captain. Before coming to the Medical Center in 1965, he was employed by the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, Mr. McClees is a member of the Durham Personnel Associa tion and the American Legion. He is a former presi dent of the Durham Association of Mutual Insurance Agents and a past member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Durham Board of Realtors. PATIENT CARE AIDES PRESENTED CERTIFICATES On March 29, the first class of 1968 Patient Care Aides were presented their certificates by Mrs. Verna Stitch, Acting Assistant Director of Nursing Service here at Duke. This marked the completion of an eight week course, consisting of two hours of class and six hours of clinical supervision each day. Of the 20 PCA's who completed the course, all have remained here at Duke. Trained in the basic elements of nursing, the PCA is qualified to assist both the LPN and the RN in performing specific bedside functions that contribute to the overall comfort and safety of the patient. The PCA is responsible to the LPN and RN in the per formance of basic nursing functions, and as such, allows the nurse to devote her efforts to the more complex aspects of total patient care. PCA graduates include the following: Bernice Harris, Nettie Young, Margaret Kenion, Lether M. Mangum, Mary Barbee, Delma Slade, Maxine Massey, Marian McNair, Mildred Booth, Sloan Branch, Bertha Hudson, Diane Evans, Ruth Camp bell, Blondeana Brown, Mary Allen, Lillie Holman and Christine Strudwick.
