duke uniucusity AFTER HOURS Those persons pictured below are but a small portion of the many employees of the Duke Univ ersity Medical Center who provide continued care and make ready areas of the medical center for the next mornings activities. The Intercom salutes the 3-11 shift. Mr. Stanton Tuttle is one of fourteen Administra tive Residents who provide 24 hour coverage in the Medical Center. The Administrative Resident is in the Medical Center at all times and may be called upon to provide administrative assistance during the evening and night hours. Mr. Robert Clay is a member of the housekeeping staff that maintains the vast Medical Center complex during the evening and night hours. His function is to prepare the building and corridors for another day of activities. mc6icM ccntcR Vi Boycher and Ann Morton are two members of the Operating Room who maintain readiness around-the-clock. They are pictured here cleaning and sterilizing instru ments for the coming day's procedures. Operating Room personnel must set up, check, and sterilize all equipment essential for the doctors to perform surgery. In the course of one day in the Operating Room over 5,700 instruments are used during surgical procedures involving approximately 40 patients. Mrs. Norma Dezern of the Prep Team is a vital member of the pre-operative team. The Prep Team prepares all patients scheduled for surgery the next day. Mrs. Dezern's function is but one of many that must be carried out effectively in the evening to provide for the orderly progression of the next day's activities.
