Eleven medical center employes have
been chosen to represent their fellow
workers on the Duke University Non-
academic Employes' Council.
The delegates were chosen during an
election held Oct. 15 and a run-off on
Oct. 22.
Six representatives from the techni
cal and clerical division and five from
operations and service will take their
places when the council convenes.

The council, a result of meetings last
spring and summer among the adminis
tration, faculty, students and employes,
will serve as a medium for discussion and
resolution of employe problems. The
group will concern itself with the areas of
wage scales, hiring, seniority, termina
tions, promotions, the grievance proce
dure and other job-related topics.
After the first meeting of the council,
the permanent Duke University Employe
Relations Advisory Committee will he
established. DUERAC will review mat
ters of disagreement between the admin
istration and the Employes' Council. The
committee will make recommendations
when necessary. These recommendations
become effective unless they are vetoed
in writing by the president of the Univer
sity within 30 days.
DUERAC will consist of five members,
two chosen by the Employes' Council,
two by the University administration and
one by mutual agreement.
Miss Evelyn M. Bedard has been pro
moted to associate director for nursing
at the hospital. The announcement
was made by University Provost R. Tay
lor Cole.
Miss Bedard, who retains her academic
title of assistant professor of nursing, had
been acting director of nursing since
October of 1967.
Her responsibilities include oyerall su
pervision of the hospital staff of regis
tered nurses and licensed practical nurses,
in addition to other employes in the
Nursing Service.
Miss Eleanor Kay has been appointed
to the position of administrative assis
tant director of Nursing Service. Miss
Kay joined the staff at Duke in 1964,
Mrs. Mary Davison has received an
appointment to the position of assistant
director for special surgical services. Mrs.
Davison joined the staff in 1958 and has
been a nursing supervisor since August of
1967.
Miss Roberta Phillips was named assis
tant director for psychiatric services on
Sept. I. She is also an assistant pro
fessor in the School of Nursing.
