6 part three of a series New Facilities Under Construction Rehabilitation II Research Park Medical center expansion to accommo date the growing diversity of research and patient care programs presently centers around construction of Rehabilitation II located on Erwin Road across from Hanes House, and Research Park, three buildings nearly completed across from the Nana- line H. Duke Medical Science Building on Science Drive. Rehabilitation II, designed with two stories and provision for two additional stories later, will serve as an outpatient facility. It is the third phase of a four- part plan for rehabilitation services at the 9%. MISS BEDARD, left, AND MRS. STITCH New Director Surprised By Nursing Administrators Miss Evelyn Bedard, associate director for nursing, was feted at a surprise dinner given by administrative and supervisory nurses Dec. II to congratulate her on her appointment. Miss Bedard was named to her new position last fall. About 25 nurses attended the banquet. Mrs. Verna Stitch, newly appointed assist ant director for nursing, served as mistress of ceremonies. The participants presented Miss Bed ard a good-luck scroll signed by each of the administrative and supervisory nurses on the hospital staff. In addition. Miss Bedard was presented two books for her library, including The American Univer sity by Jacques Barzun and The Wisdom of the West by Bertrand Russell. medical center. Among the services to be included in Rehab II are a pediatric pulmonary dis ease center under the direction of Dr. Alexander Spock, the information and counseling center for older persons spon sored by the Department of Psychiatry, a treatment center for neurogenic bladder disease under the direction of Dr. Saul Boyarsky, and a stroke rehabilitation pro gram under direction of Dr. Carl Gerber. The building is costing approximately $1.1 million. Research Park consists of three metal- walled "limited-life" buildings with pro vision for construction of a fourth. The facilities cost approximately $500,000. The first building will house a variety of research programs in the Department of Medicine. The second, to be used for cardio vascular core research, will be used by the departments of medicine, radiology, ped iatrics and surgery. In addition, bio medical engineering will sponsor a pro gram in the building. The third limited-life structure will house research programs in the field of immunology and organ transplantation under the direction of Dr. D. Bernard Amos.
