The department, under the director ship of Bruce Bateman, was established in July as part of a decentralization program to bring a more complete materials ser vice to the Medical Center. The change is aimed at eliminating the necessity of sending orders for some products and e- quipment to the University's central pur chasing office. He will be in charge of buying all pharmaceuticals and radioactive isotopes in addition to auxiliary products. Warren Wagner has been named buyer in charge of hospital purchasing. He is responsible for purchase of all medical, surgical and photographic equipment and supplies. Lee Knight, formerly with central purchasing, has been appointed buyer in charge for scientific and laboratory sup plies. His duties include acquisition of all chemicals. Named hospital storeroom supervisor in the department's new organizational layout was Norman Mock. He has been acting in this capacity for several months. The appointment of Mr. Bateman to the directorship post makes the depart ment administratively responsible to Jeff H. Steinert, assistant vice president for business and finance at the Medical Cen ter. The goal of decentralization has been defined as assigning responsibility and de cision-making authority where the action is. The action for Mr. Bateman and his staff will generate from within the hos pital. At present, Mr. Collins and Mr. Knight are retaining offices at the central purchasing headquarters on Buchanan Boulevard until renovation within the hospital can be completed. 11 Mrs. Silberman On N.C.
