PROFESSIONAL NEWS Wins Award Dr. Yihong Kong, assistant professor of medicine, has won first prize in the Young Investigators' Award competition at the 19th annual scientific sessions of the American College of Cardiology in New Orleans February 26. Dr. Kong's paper was titled "Assessment of Regional Myocardial Performance from Biplane Coronary Cineangio- grams." Dr. Joseph P. Miller, former pre-doctoral research fellow at Duke tied for second place in the competition. Lecturer Dr. J.W. Everett, professor of anatomy, gave a talk on "Neural Mechanisms Controlling the Ovulatory' Surge of Gonadotropin" as a speaker in the Distinguished Scientist Lecture Series at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond February 26. The lecture was sponsored by the Department of people Anatomy and co-sponsored by the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. On March 6, Dr. Everett gave the same talk at the Southwest Foundation for Research and Education, Department of Endocrinology, San Antonio, Texas. While in San Antonio, he also presented a seminar at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Visiting Professor Dr. James J. Morris, Jr., associate professor of medicine, served as visiting professor at Charlotte Memorial Hospital February 3. The same day he was guest speaker at the kick-off banquet for Heart Month sponsored by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Heart Association. Dr. Morris was also visiting professor at a postgraduate and continuing medical education program at Spartanburg General Hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina, March 13. In addition, he served as speaker for a postgraduate course in medicine in Statesville and Rutherfordton, N.C., March 3 and 4 sponsored by the office of continuing education of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Give Papers Several members of the Duke Department of Pathology presented papers at the 67th meeting of the American Association of Pathologists and Bacteriologists in St. Louis March 7-10. Among those presenting original work were Drs. William Bradford, Benjamin Trump, Peter Burkholder, Gordon Klintworth, and Wolfgang Mergner. Other members of the department who attended the sessions were Dr. J.J. Vasquez, Dr. Donald Hackel, Dr. Fred Ginn, Mr. Byron Crocker, and Mr. Hal Hawkins. Dr. Thomas D. Kinney, chairman of the department, attended the meetings in his capacity as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Pathology, the official publication of the American Association of Pathologists and Bacteriologists. Published Paper Dr. Miriam Jacobs, director of physical therapy, has published an article in the on the move 1970 Journal of Comparative Neurology on "The Development of the Human Motor Trigeminal Complex and Accessory Facial Nucleus and their Topographic Relations with the Facial and Abducens Nuclei." In Germany Dr. Siegfried Heyden, associate professor of community health sciences, will attend a one-week ccnfererice on "Fundamental Data on Reactions of Vascular Tissue in Man" for pans’ discussions April 18-26 in Bad Schachen, Germany. To Give Lecture Dr. Joseph A. C. Wadsworth, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, will present the Albert C. Snell Memorial Lecture of the Rochester, New York,. Ophthalmological Society this month. Meeting Twenty-two members of the Texas Association of Genitourinary Surgeons held their annual meeting at Duke Medical Center March 15-17. Dr. James F. Glenn, chief of urology at Duke, hosted the session. Drs. E. Everett Anderson, Joseph M. Malin, Jr., Saul Boyarsky, and John E. Dees served as moderators for the four scientific sessions. Gives Paper Dr. Jacqueline J. Jackson, assistant professor of medical sociology, presented a paper titled "Negro Grandparents: Interactional and Subjective Role Aspects" at the Southern Sociological Society meeting April 24 in Atlanta. Make Presentations Two Duke radiologists participated in the postgraduate radiology program on the G.l. tract sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Radiology in Charlotte March 14. Dr. Reed P. Rice, associate professor, spoke on "Plain Film Diagnosis of Inflammatory Disease of the G.l. Tract."
