Carter, has been named administrator of Highland Hospital in Asheville. Mr. Carter, at Duke since October of 1969, moved to Highland December 1 succeeding Miss Carol Gregory. Highland Hospital, a 125-bed psychiatric facility, is a division of the Duke Department of Psychiatry. Located on an 85-acre hilltop site, the hospital was given to the Medical Center in 1939 by its founder. Dr. Robert S. Carroll. Announcement of Mr. Carter’s appointment to the administrative post came from Dr. Charles W. Neville, medical director of Highland and an associate professor of psychiatry on the Duke staff. Mr. Carter was one of the six unit administrators who first carried out the idea of decentr-alized ward administration at Duke just over a year ago. His responsibilities were for the obstetrics and gynecology wards and the newborn and intensive care nurseries. Employes in the Ob-Gyn area honored Mr. Carter at a reception November 30 in the Carter Suite classroom. Mr. Carter has a background in business, finance, and administration. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, W. Va. For two years before coming to Duke he was director of King's business College in Raleigh, and prior to that he was district manager of Beneficial Management Corp. From 1959 to 1963, Mr. Carter was assistant vice-president of the First Union National Bank in Charlotte. He and his wife Betty have a nine-year-old son. Clay. HOSPITAL CHORUS IN CONCERT-—Director Theodore Freeland leads the Medical Center's chorus during its fall concert November 13 in the East Duke Music Room. The group presented a program of popular songs, folk ballads, and novelty numbers for the children's benefit performance. The chorus plans more concerts during the Christmas season, (staff photo) MR. CARTER Administration Says 'Merry Christmas’ To All Employes The Medical Center will sponsor a Christmas reception for all employes on Thursday, December 17, in the Hospital cafeteria. Hours of the party for day-shift people will be from 2-4 p.m. For personnel on the evening and night shift, the hours will be 10:30—midnight. All personnel from all components of the Medical Center are encouraged to attend and share refreshments.
