Medical Center Unveils SEDO

System Based on 8 Color Zones
SEDO, the Medical Center's much-talked-about directional system, goes into
operation next week.
Known officially as the "System for Environmental Direction and
Orientation," SEDO is designed to help visitors, patients, students, and new
employes get where they want to go without getting lost.
The system is based on the division of the Medical Center into eight color
zones—white, blue, red, green, yellow, purple, orange, and brown. The purpose
of the zones is to aid people in orienting themselves and get them headed in the
right direction.
The color zones, which have no relationship to the areas' functions, are
distinguished by the background color of the hanging SEDO signs in that
section. For example, all the signs in the green zone have black
letters on a green background.
Eventually, all other signs, including temporary ones, will
be replaced with those done in the proper colors. In addition,
stairway doors and elevators have been painted to match the
zone in which they're located.
Special lighted SEDO signs have been mounted to show
where one color zone ends and another begins.
