Dr. William G. Aniyan, vice-president for health affairs, was appointed to the AMA's Council on National Security. Dr. Jay M. Arena, professor of pediatrics and community health sciences, was selected as principal representative of the American Academy of Pediatrics on the AMA Interspecialty Committee. Gets Grant Dr. Samson R. Gross, professor of biochemistry, has received a grant totaling $61,700 for research titled "Regulatory Mechanisms of Enzyme Synthesis and Function in Neurospora." The grant was made by the National Science Foundation. Memorial Lecturer Dr. J. W. Everett, professor of anatomy, presented the first annual Kathleen M. Osborn Memorial Lecture at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City February 23. His topic was "A Search for Brain Mechanisms Timing Ovulation." In England Dr. Wolfgang K. Joklik, chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, attends a workshop on Interferon this month in Birmingham, England. At Meeting Dr. J. Leonard Goldner, chief of the divison of orthopaedic surgery, attended the annual meeting of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand in San Francisco the first of March. Dr. Goldner is a member of the organization's council and was discussor of a paper at the general meeting. Shangold Earnestine Spaulding MOPC Names New Director A former administrative assistant at the Medical Center, Wade William Burgess, has been appointed director of the Medical Outpatient Clinic. Mr. Burgess was assistant administrator of the nephrology division at Duke from September, 1969, to July, 1970. Since then, he had served as assistant director for the division of planning and develpment at the North Carolina Regional Medical Program based in Durham. A native of Canton, III., Mr. Burgess received his bachelor's degree at Illinois University in 1962 and his master's degree in public health education from the University of North Carolina in 1964. While working on his master's degree and following graduation, he served as director of public health education for the Durham County Health Department. He then became executive director of the Peoria-Stark Counties Tuberculosis Association in Peoria, III. His last assignment before returning to Durham was as stroke coordinator for the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Heart Assocation in Springfield, III. Mr. Burgess is married to the former Nelle Hicks, a native of Durham. t
