Professional News ■> Installed President Dr. Jay M. Arena, professor of pediatrics and community health sciences, was installed as president of the American Academy of Pediatrics at the group's annual meeting in Chicago Oct. 16-21. Dr. Arena gave seven talks at the meeting, including his presidential address to the 11,500-member society. At the same meeting. Dr. Susan C. Dees, professor of pediatrics, received the 1971 Bret Ratner Award for outstanding contributions in the field of pediatric allergy. Appointed Dr. Robert L. Hill, chairman of the Department of Biochemistry, was recently appointed a member of the Goals and Priorities Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is also a member of the Board's executive committee. Dr. Hill participated i n the Second International Symposium on Metabolic Interconversion of Enzymes held this month in Rottach-Egern, Bavaria. He presented a paper entitled "The Structure and Function of Lactose Synthetase." Urology Meeting Set The divisions of urology and pediatric nephrology are sponsoring "A Day of Pediatric Urology" on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 8 30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Hospital amphitheater. Guest lecturer for the program will be Mr. D. Innes VUIIiams, F.R.C.S., chief of urology at the Hospital for Sick Children in London and one of the world's leading authorities in pediatric urology. All interested Hospital personnel are invited to attend. Gives Talks Dr. Ewald W. Busse, professor and chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, delivered the first annual Herbert S. Ripley Lecture at the University of Washington in Seattle Sept. 14. His talk was titled "Age Changes, Health, and Adjustment." That same day. Dr. Busse gave a talk called "The Origins of Priorities and the Effect of Pressure on Mental Health Services" at the 23rd Institute on Hospital and Community Psychiatry in Seattle. Gets Grant Dr. Charles Tanford, James B. Duke Professor of Biochemistry, has received a grant from the National Science Foundation, The award, $40,000 for the first year of a two-year project, was made for research titled "Structure and Function of Cell Membranes." DUKE'S CHAMPS- These three men are key members of the Duke Medics, a basketball team which took top honors in its division of a recently ended Durham Y. M. C. A. season.
