The Civitan Building for Mental Retardation and Child Development has just been completed, while the Hanes addition and Alexander Sands Building, (sometimes called MS1-B) are currently underway. The three-level parking garage is on its way up, and plans call for the Eye Center to be completed in February of 1973. Another major building project, presently in the planning stages, is the Communications Center and Library to be located near the Bell Building. The 96,400-square foot facility is scheduled to house the Medical Center Library, equipment for utilizing modern information techniques, and 7,500 square feet of unfinished space for a future Continuing Education Center. The cost of the building is estimated at $5.3 million. Also planned is a parking lot adjacent to the Sands Building. While these new facilities are being built, a large amount of renovation is occuring in areas within the Hospital. Some of the construction will provide needed office space for a number of departments. Work began recently on a roof-deck structure over the top of Howland Ward to house office space for the division of nuclear medicine. Office areas are also being provided for the Department of Anesthesia on the fifth floor of the Hospital and on the first and ground floors, east wing, of Baker House; for the Department of Surgery on the third floor, in Clinical Research I; and (continued on page three} Auto Registration To Begin Feb. 15 Automobile registration for Duke employes will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The registration point for employes working in the main Hospital will be located in the basement in a corridor adjacent to the Medical Records Department, Red Zone. The area will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 15-18, Feb. 21-25, and Feb. 28-29. For employes working the night shift, the’ registration area will re-open from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. February 15-18.
