4 imERCHANGE Why doesn't Duke Hospital have a Credit Union or special department where an employe can borrow or save money and have it deducted from his paycheck? The University does have a Credit Union, which is open to all Duke employes and their families. It is a means of saving money and of making moderate loans at reasonable interest rates. Through the saving plan, payments may be made in any amount and members earn dividends as high as or higher than those paid elsewhere. Members also automatically receive an additional form of security through a Life Savings Insurance plan. Payments on savings may be made by check, money order, cash or payroll deduction. Through the loans plan, members can borrow up to $10,000 over a five-year period. The maximum interest rate is 1 per cent each month on the unpaid balance. There are lesser interest rates which are determined by the types of collateral used. If you are interested in joining the Credit Union or have any further questions, you can drop by the office, 025 Old Chemistry Building, or phone ext. 6704 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Also available is Duke's Payroll Savings Plan. Through this plan, you can specify the amount you want deducted automatically from each paycheck and that money will go toward the purchase of U.S. Savings Bonds. Each time your payroll deductions add up to the purchase price of a bond, the following month a bond issued in your name will be sent to you. For more information on the Payroll Savings Plan, call the Medical Center Personnel Office, ext. 3424. Do you have a question on your mind? Ask INTERCHANGE.
