2 Professional News Robert Newton Has Been Named New Patient Accounting Director Robert L. Newton has been named director of patient accounting at Duke IVIedical Center. iVlr. Newton's responsibilities will include overall management of patient accounting. He will also be a primary member of the team currently working toward the installation and implementation of the Medi-Data hospital information system, with which he has prior experience. Mr. Newton will also assume the data processing responsibilities of Emerson Cooley, who retires this month. Mr. Newton grew up in Wyoming and Nevada, and is a graduate of the University of Wyoming. Prior to coming to Duke, he served in the USAF, as a consultant to Medi-Data, Inc. in Charlotte, and as an assistant controller at N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. ROBERT L. NEWTON His recreational interests include golf and skiing, and he holds a private pilot's license. Georgia Scholarships Are Now Available Bona fide residents of Georgia pursuing medical educations or careers in the allied health fields may be eligible for scholarships provided by the Georgia State Scholarship Commission. All students who are eligible and will be able to demonstrate financial need to cover the cost of their continuing education are urged to contact the appropriate office in the Medical Center for further information. Medical Students should speak with Nellie Andrews, coordinator of undergraduate medical education financial aid, in 706 Davison. Students in allied health careers should contact their program directors. Attends Conference Dr. F. O'Foghludha, professor of radiology and director of the Radiation Physics Division, and Dr. R. G. Lester, professor in the Division of Diagnostic Radiology and chairman of the Department of Radiology, attended the Third International Conference on Medical Physics in Gothenburg, Sweden, July 30-August 4. As chairman of the conference for two days. Dr. O'Foghludha presented a talk on "Development of Extra-corporeal IrradiaforJ." He also gave another lecture with Dr. Lester and two other attending doctors on "Earth-satellite Transmission of Fluoroscopic and Radiographic Images." Attends Conference RN Jane Sharp on Matas Ward attended a pediatric conference in Montreal, Canada, May 24. Admitted To Membership Dr. Charles Johnson, assistant professor of medicine, has been admitted to membership in the American College of Physicians. It is a 57-year-old international medical society representing Internists and specialists in related fields. As a leading medical organization with 20,000 members, the American College of Physicians sponsors postgraduate course and regional meetings, publishes the "Annals of Internal Medicine," and holds an annual session that attracts some 5,000 physicians. HAS HIS CAKE AND EATS IT TOO-Dr. Robert H. Wilkins, associate professor of neurosurgery, and Mrs. Ruth Terry attend a party given at Surgical P.D.C. in honor of Dr. Wilkins' service to Duke. After a decade. Dr. Wilkins is leaving the Medical Center to become chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Scott and White Clinic in Temple, Tex. Dr. Wilkins said he has greatly enjoyed his association with Duke. OPERATING ROOM TECHNOL OG Y PROGRAM A one year course of study of basic anatomy and physiology and related on the job training in the special services will begin on Sept. 11.
