Professional 37 Physician’s Associates Graduate News Chairs Sessions Dr. Jacquelyne Johnson Jackson, associate professor of medical sociology, chaired two sessions and served on several committees at the American Sociological Association's annual meeting in New Orleans, La., August 28-September 1. Dr. Jackson also participated in a panel discussion on Black Women at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association in Honolulu, Hawaii, September 1-8. The paper that she presented focused upon '■Relationships between Black Women and Black Men." 25th ANNIVERSARY A dinner celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Durham Child Guidance Clinic will be held Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.nfi. in the Ballroom of the Union Building. The speaker will be Dr. George Gardner, emeritus professor of psychiatry at Harvard and retired director of the Judge Baker Children's Psychiatric Clinic in Boston. His subject will be "Children's Needs, Our Opportunity." Tickets are $7.50 per person and reservations may be made with the clinic. The Medical Center graduated 37 new Physician's Associates at ceremonies in the Gross Chemical Building on Aug. 31. This will bring the total graduates from the Duke program, which was the first of its kind in the country when it started in 1965, to 108. Both the first-year class now in training and the class that will be enrolled this fall have 40 students. Twenty-five of the graduates are from North Carolina. Those from Durham are: Gloria Clemens, Sandra Farrington, Eloise Judah, Ken Vanous, Arthur Smith, William Signorini, John Schumacher, Alan Sams, Ken Ryther, Carroll Poppen, Charles Mutch, Patricia McNabb, Joseph Judah, John Gerstbrein, Roger Gabriel and Michael E. Colaneri. Graduates from elsewhere in North Carolina are: David Creswell and Donald McCaskill of Shelby, Brian Lenoci of Waynesville, Emmett Noll of Spruce Pine, Ann Porter of Hendersonville, Cecelia Wesoiy of Lake Lure and Henri Isabella, Samuel Herring and Adrian Boone of Morganton. Dr. D. Robert Howard, assistant professor of community health sciences and director of the Physician's Associate Program, resigned effective Sept. 1 to become an associate professor of medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville. David E. Lewis, associate director of the P.A. program will succeed Dr. Howard until November when a new director is named. Mr. Lewis will then also travel to Gainesville to become associate director of the University of Florida's Family Practice Residency Program. At the graduation ceremonies awards and honorary Physician's Associate degrees were presented to Dr. Howard and Dr. Lewis for their service to Duke and to the concept of the Physician Associate on a national level. STEPPING DOI/i/N-Dr. D. Robert Howard, former director of the Physician's Associate Program, received an award from the American Association of Physician's Associates for his service to Duke and the nation.
