For more than 40 woinen a steak dinner at the Angus Barn May 15 marked the conclusion of another successful season of bowling of the Duke Ladies Bowling League. It was a time of good fellowship, when rivalries are set on the shelf until next year, and the league honored those members who distinguished themselves during the season. Joyce Nichols made the presentation of awards and kept everyone laughing with her humorous commentary. The first place award went to the Ding Bats which includes Frances Nichols, Annie Roberts, Betsy Houston, Marion Wilson and Polly Jordan. The second place team trophy was awarded to Mamie Parker, Stephania Smith, Marion Hallenborg, Jean Hallenborg and Dorethea Pressley, members of the Hot Shots. The Hot-A-Rods received third place for the season. Joyce Nichols won the high average trophy with a 156 for the year, and Dorethea Pressley was second with a 155. Betty Stanck and Linda Hobby received first place for the scratch high game and the high game with handicap, respectively. Mary Ann Lucas rolled the high scratch series with a 541 and Mamie Parker was second with a 523. Frances Nichols had the highest series with a handicap with a 648 total and Annie Roberts was second with 645. Linda Wilkins, Betty Hudgins, Marion Wilson and Augusta Kirkland also received trophies for high games. League members who had “200" games during the season were Betty Hudgins, Mary Ann Lucas, Joyce Nichols, Betty Stanck, Linda Wilkins, Marion Wilson and Dorethea Pressley. Vi Boycher, Betsy Houston, Mamie MOST IMPROVED BOWLER-Mixs Lou Meyer received the trophy for improving her game more than anyone else in the league. Parker, Peggy Williams and Louise Wilson were honored for maintaining perfect attendence, Mary Lou Meyer was the most improvedbowlerand Mary Ann Lucas was voted as having displayed the best sportsmanship. Elections vxere held at the banquet for the coming year and the officers include Mamie Parker, president; Jean Hallenborg, vice president; Alma Council, treasurer; Lessie Welborn, secretary; and June Perry, sergeant-at-arms. Herb Aikens, director of Employe Relations for the university, was a special guest for the evening's ceremonies. Any Duke women interested in joining the league for next year may call Lessie Welborn at 2727 or June Perry at 3806.
