the ram's horn 3 Miss see crowned October 15,1970 saw the start of the reiqn of a new Miss Southeastern Community College, Miss Nancy Johnson. Miss Johnson, selected out of a field of twenty contestants, is a secretarial student and a Duncan, students. Ernest Cutler was the master of ceremonies. Unusual interest was shown by the students this year after a spirited publicity campaign by the Publicity Committee of the Student Government Runner-up in the contest was Marika Nagy, a costmetology student from Germany. The other four of the six finalists were; Ava Best of Whiteville, Lounette Grainger of Loris, S.C., Armelda Bracy of Hallsboro, and ■ ii* MBS A Brother-sister, duo, Nancy and David Barden provide part of the entertainment at Miss SCC pagent. Other contestants competing for the title of Miss Southeastern were Kathy Gore, Charlotte Howard, and Cynthia Turbeville, from Whiteville; Judy Rogers of Dillon, S.C., Linda Hammond and Paula Hinson, from Chadbourn; Peggy Hammond and Barbara McRae, from Fairmont; Phyllis Pierce of Hallsboro, Mamie Davis of Cerro Gordo, Pam Strickland of Clarendon, Sandra West of Bladenboro, Catrina Stanley of Tabor City, and Ruby Stevenson of Longwood. Some of the people behind the scenes were; Peggy Self, Tommy Holland, and Brenda Young, contest coordinators; Wanda Utley, and Steve Vaughn, stanging; Vickie Ward, and Eloise Elps, flowers; and Jimmy Singletary, program chairman. Tradition was broken at this event as Dr. Cottingham, because of the death of the former Miss SCC, Diane Rodgers, crowned the new Miss SCC. Nancy Johnson, our new Queen, is twenty years old, five feet five inches tall and weighs one-hundred twenty-five pounds. Her interests are sewing, horse-back riding, reading, and playing the piano. Miss SCC, Nancy Johnson and runner up Marika Nagy sophomore in the Technical program. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Johnson of Fairmont and is a graduate of Fairmont High School. The four judges of the contest were; Mrs. Shirley Basinger and Mr. Charles Grigsby, faculty members. Ion Green and Charles Association. For the first time, many students saw a filled auditorium as hundreds of others had to wait outside to hear the final decision of the judges. Musical entertainment was provided by Nancy and David Barden, Phyllis Wood, Bill Glisson, and Steve Miller; all but Phyllis are members of the colleqe choir.
