On September the 22, 1971,
Southeastern held its Fall
election for the new Fresh
men Senators. Interest did
not seem to reach the
students during the campaign
or the election; the election
results in terms of people who
went to vote was one of the
poorest this school has ever
reported.
The newly elected officers
are: College Parallel Paula
Thompson, Mary Anne
Strickland, Tommy Greer,
and Pat Wooten, Technical
Department; Rachel Barnes,
and Kathy Britt, Vocational
Department Peggy Dennis
£oid Barbara Gore.
All of the new and old of
ficers of the SGA have ex
pressed a real desire to meet
and listen to the problems
and suggestions of as many
students as possible.
The see choir this year is
one of the best yet. It’s
enrollment is 58, an increase
from last year. Richard
Burkhardt is director.
Already a concert is
scheduled to be presented
November 4, at 8 p.m. in the
auditorium. Admission is free
and open to the public.
A series of sacred and pop
music will be sung. Such
numbers as “I Believe,”
“Leaving On A Jet Plane,”
“Hey Jude,” “Everything is
Beautiful,” “You’re a Good
Man, Charlie Brown,” “God
of Mercy,” “The Lord Bless
You,” “This Is My Country,”
“Psalm 150,” and many
more.
The choir is putting a lot of
work into this upcoming
concert. Everyone is urged to
attend.
Welborne Back
From Overseas
Recently, Curtis and Betty
Welborne returned home
from a summer trip to
Greece, Their stay abroad
lasted from August 14 to
September 8. '
Among the places visited
by the Welbornes were the
Acropolis in Athens, the home
of Hippocrates at Epidarus,
the tomb of Agamemnon at
Mycenae, the temples at
Corinth and Sounion, and the
Temple of Ajwllo at Delphi.
The tour also included part of
southern Yugoslavia and the
site of the original Olympic
games at Olympia.
Welborne listed Athens as
one of his favorite places
because he was able to visit
the exact spot of Socrates’
trial and the probable place
of Socrates’ imprisonment.
He also felt that Olympia and
Delphi contained many
beautiful examples of ancient
Greek art and sculpture.
When asked about the
people of Greece, he stated
that basically there was no
difference between people all
over the world.
