Besides the visitors mentioned there is
a large number of friends and relatives of
the students and friends of the college
visiting in town.
Over the mountains of toil.
And over the valleys of knowledge ;
From the fountains of joy.
And under the waves of love;
Through storms that are severest.
Which drive many away.
Through college days dearest.
We have found a way.
We found a way to the Freshman goal.
It was four years ago.
And we were green, as now we know.
When we sailed from our native
shore;
The waters were calm that day.
And the sky was clear.
And we set out with laughter
On the sea of years.
The summer flowers early bloomed
And the birds gaily sang.
While eleven Sophomores roamed,
Wandering to Junior Land ;
Friendships were formed,
A common tie began to show.
And the days hastened on
Like the river’s flow.
Fond recollections began to grow.
The College Halls are drearer.
The years pass not so slowly.
As the end draws nearer.
The value of the fleeing years we see.
For the world calls for men,
And we are anxious to dare and to be
Greater than we have been.
So the last year has come.
The sun is in the Western sky.
Soon the morrow brings us home.
And, Class Mates, we say good by.
Our emerald-green and gold.
Thou wilt ever be worn.
Our motto, " conatum fac,"
Will guide us ever on.
Then dear old Elon, we leave thee.
It is a happy and a sad farewell.
For we love thy College walls, Elon,
And the memories here.
Thou art our "Alma Mater"—our
better part—
And we shall not forget you, ^
With manly minds, with manly hearts.
We’ll ever remember you.
