Coach Corboy
Is Not Pleased
Football Squad Is Being Whipped
Into Shape.
Elon’s Rose
The past week has been one of
intensive work for the football
aspirants. The team has been put
through some hard scrimmages
every day, the line getting spe
cial attention. The game at Fur
man showed the weakness in
some places and in order to
strengthen the weak spots Coach
Corboy has shifted Brown, White
and Garvey to the line. These
changes seem to have put more
punch into the line, and they have
sh;iv,n mnrp in , inf r:--
holes for the backfield.
In the backfield he is trying Un
derwood, Fix and Newman, and
as a whole the changes have
strengthened the morale of the
team. The line has improved its
defense while the backfield is
showing up well in line plunging.
With the present outlook Coach
Corboy is not well pleased, and it
will take some hard work to bring
the team up to the standard he
desires. With all cripples well
and no players on the sick list, he
states that he sees no reason why
the team should not come up to
all expectations.
BE GLAD OF THE
HARD VICTORIES
From out the depths of Heaven’s blue
Her dear eyes caught their color rare;
The sunshine lent its radiant hue
To glorify her golden hair.
Her lips, where smiles play hide and seek.
Were kissed and stained by June’s red tosk
The dainty pink of her lovely cheek
She stole from sunset’s softened glows.
Her firm, white throat like marble gleams,
Her angel grace which thrills the heart
Are found but in some artist’s dreams
Of which she seems to be a part.

Do not be satisfied with easy
victories. That which you can
win without trying is not worth
winning, as a rule. No one gets

The Student Volunteer Band
met in regular session on the
evening of October 5. Rev. D. P.
Barrett was present and answer
ed a number of questions for the
members.
The volunteers are planning a
great year’s work, and wish to
have as many as possibly can at
tend the meetings. Everyone who
is interested in missions will find
the meetings helpful. They will
be full of real information and in
spiration.

you what I mean.
Would it not be interesting, in

through your columns a few

The one way to get something
out of something is to put some
thing into something. So let’s all
put something in college pep and
our athletic teams.
The one thing that makes a
person love his college more and
rejoice at the achievements of
his college is for that person to
do something toward forming the
spirit of the college life.
Now, let’s all pull together and
make this the most successful

We believe, with the number of
prospective athletes in school and
the ability of our coach to put
these in form, we can make this a
most successful year, if we will
each and all only do out bit.
We want the student body and
faculty as a whole to know more
about athletics and show more in
terest in the teams. Every per
son connected with the school
should know every fellow who
goes out for a team and if he
makes the team, why he made it,
and if he does not make the team,
why h^ Vv-' It^make it. They
