MAROON AND GOLD. 7 CHARLES P. HEYWARD AD DRESSES THE HARDING- COOLIDGE CLUB. Thursday evening the Harding- Coolidge Club had as their speak er Mr. Charles P. Heyward of Southern Pines, N. C., and Port land, Maine. The Republicans of the college including a large num ber of the co-eds, were out in a body to hear their speaker, and was frequently interrupted by ap plause. Dr. W. A. Harper presented L. B. Ezell, president of the club, who introduced the speaker. Mr. Heyward asked a vote of his au dience to ascertain their prefer ence for “The whole story” or a discussion on the League of Na tions and the dissipation of the Victory Loan. The audience res ponded with a unanimous vote for the longer speech. Mr. Heyward’s address (dealt principally with the mistakes and shortcomings of the present ad ministration. He was strong in his condemnation of the waste ful uses to which the Liberty Loans were put, and took a decid ed stand against the League of Nations. The Republicans of the college have endeavored to secure a speaking engagement from Mrs. Mary Settle Sharpe, Republican candidate for State Superinten dent of Public Instruction, but her time is completely taken up until election day. PHILOLOGIAN SOCIETY POSTPONE PROGRAM One New Member Received. For mer Phis Visit Hall. As October 25 was the night for the election of ofificers, the motion to postpone program one week was made and carried. The society was glad to re ceive Mr. J. R. Barker into full membership. Mr. Barker was introduced by Mr. W. D. Lam beth and welcomed by the pres ident. The Phi goat will not suf fer for exercise if new men keep coming in. Old Bill enjoys tak ing them to ride, especially when he has just had a nice meal of barbed wire and glass bottles. The society was glad to have back with it two former Philo- logians. Mr. S. R. Moffit, who is new studying at the North Caro lina University, gave some point ed remarks. Mr. J. F. Minnis, of Hillsboro, was present with a few appropriate words. Mr. Minnis is now studying at the West Min ister Theological Seminary, at West Minister, Md. Mr. Minnis advised that the Phi spirit be kept on the tank, and Mr. Moffitt was glad to see that the same old- fashioned Phi spirit was still “rushing,” only a little more swiftly, if anything. The society is alw'ays glad to welcome for mer Phis to the hall. LENOIR CANCELS GAME Greatly to the dissappointment of the Elon team and fans, Lenoir College cancelled the football game scheduled for Saturday. It was hoped that this game would serve as a selective test for Elon’s line-up for the remaining games^" ^ of the season, those with Trinity, Wake Forest, Guilford and At lantic Cristian College.
