October 13, 1922 MAROON AND GOLD Page Three NEW MEMBERS HONORED BY BETA OMRICON BETA Hike and Camp Supper—Miss Fisher and Professor Betts Hon orary Members. Wednesday of last week the Beta Omricon Beta club gave a camp sup per in honor of its two honorary mem bers, Miss Florence Fisher and Profes sor E. M. Betts. Leaving the college campus about 5 o'clock the club hiked happily down the road about a mile and th^ turned off to a secluded spot a short distance from the road. Here they at once set about building the fire to cook supper. Great amusemeut and some fright was created among all when a cow that was tethered nearby threatened, by her vain attempts, to join the party. So serious was the situation that they considered moving the camp, but their problem was solved by the removal of the cow. Finally supper was ready and besides ‘‘eats,’’ jokes and riddles were the order of the occasion. After a boun tiful supply of both, the new members were initiated, causing more merriment. All joined in the games which were played in the beautiful moonlight. The group then gayly tripped its way home amid songs and laughter. Those present were Professor E. M. Betts, Misses Florence Fisher, Essie and Della Gotten, Victoria Adams, Pat ty Coghill, Mary Graham Lawrence, Effic Bowden, Mary Hall Stryker, Sarah Carter, and Mesdames C. M. and L. M. Cannon. Bear Cats Lose 42-0 The Elon “Bear Cats” journeyed to Oak Rridge Institute last Saturday for their first game. Lack of organization cost them a defeat of 42-0. The Oak Ridge team showed up well on line plays and end runs. The Elon boys showed good fight but were outweighed. Struck by an Automobile in Driving Bain and Suffers Many Painful Bruises. An accident occurred here Monday afternoon about 5 o’clock, when, in a driving rainstorm^ a car struck G. D. Underwood and knocked him down, in flicting bruises on the head. It seems that Mr. Underwood was running with his head down to escape the rain, and when the driver of the car saw him it was too late to avoid the accident. She swerved quickly to the right and avoided a direct collis ion, but the car side-swiped Mr. Un derwood. Mr. Underwood is able to be out now and it is expected that no serious in- juries, will result, though it will take a few days for the bruises to heal. Smarting under their defeat at the hands of Oak Ridge, they are determined to take their revenge out on the Sanford Highs. As one of the “Bear Cats” remarked, the hat chet with which they were to scalp the Oak Ridgers was forgotten and left at home, but will without doubt be packed along on this trip.
