Davis St. Bwlington - - Near Post-Office . . . . North Carolina One of tlie most intercsfing and most bcnutiful y. W. C. A. progTiims ot the year was liekl last Sunday evening. Peb- niary 11. in tliP girls' g.vmnaM)um, with Miss IsabelU' Dixon as leader. The time being so near St. Valentine's Day. the topic chosen for tlie evening’s program was ••Hearts." But the subject was treated in a way Aery different from which it is usually treated at a Valentine party. Across the front of the room four hirge rod hearts hearing the letters Y. M. C. A. were suspended. The leader had pre pared smaller white hearts on each of which was written a Bible verse con taining the word henrt. and which were distril)ut'*d among those present at the meeting by two girls who stood ot the doorway and presented each member w'ith a heart as she entered. The program was opened wdth the singing of the song. “Day is Dying in the West.” followed by the song, “If Your Heart Keeps Kight.” After the songs. ]\Iiss Dixon read the Bible les son for the evening, whicli consisted of a number of liible verses containing the word heart, and ^liss Victoria Adams led the meeting in prayej'. T''his was fol lowed up with a talk by the leader on ••Hearts.’' and a number of beautiful and animated short talks on the same subject by different Y. M. C. A. mem bers. The closing song of the evening’s pro gram was “I'rue Hearted. Whole Heart ed.” after the singing of which the lead er pronounced the benediction. The programs for the remaining part of this college yeai* have already been planned; and below is a list of the sub jects to be discussed together with the names of those who are to have charj of the meetings: Fehruary 18 Subject: “Blue Ridge Echoes. Youth calls out for the gaiety, fun atul «:omi)anionship of youth. The rol licking laughter and the happy spirit that )>revailed Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:80 o'clock at a delightful valentine l)arty showt'd clearly that this call of youtii for youth had been heard aud answered. After dinner, which was serv ed at o’clock those who were to act MS host and hostesses to the guests at their res])i'ctive tables, by very ener getic effort changed the college dininj hall in West Dormitory into a beautiful aud charming i)la;e, artistically decorat 'd with red hearts, cupid’s darts, etc. At the riuging of the bell, the students who had been enjoying a social hour in the reception hall entered—rather, rush ed in. eager for what was to follow. The couples ei-e soon seated at the vario.us tables, and the merriment began. Amus ing. contests, games, jokes, etc., were en- iiged in, music was rendered by Messrs. Hatley, Everett and Miss Moffitt and otliers, apples and candy kisses were served as refreshments and unique prizes were awarded to the winners of the contests. The bell sounded for the eud of the hour and every one went away reluctantly but iu happy si>irits. Many declared this the most delight ful Valentine party they had ever at tended and all must have felt that good Saint Valentine himself would have smiled on the scene. Much gratitude is due those who worked so faithfully that the students might have this enjoyable party.
