Harvard won; but on the second day was held to a tie in a contest played according to Rugby rales. The manner of playing was simple. A player could either run, throw or pass ’ the ball when it came to him. “Many good struggles’’ are recorded in a con temporaneous account. Eleven players participated in the first game; but as a matter of chance rather tlian design, four of tlie Cana dian players having been detained in Montreal. For the first time in its his- toiy the Harvard team cast aside their usual costume consisting of the oldest clothes available and wore dark trous ers, white undershirts and magnet scarfs wound about* their heads. Their opponents appeared neatly uniformed in the English fashion. The game consisted of three half-hour periods. Five hundred people witnessed the struggle. I Nov. 5th, I went to raleigh that day and visited the Capitol grounds, I saw many different kinds of leaves they had turned to winter brown, I saw spotted here and there seventeen different kinds of treses. The whole Capitol square was spotted with natures brown colored leaves, The several different monuments they were all noble and grand, They seemed to be upon good foundation so that they might long stand, I saw tlie cannon and the ball whitcli seemed to be very round, I saw the little bunnie squirrels they we-re playing here/and their, O, it was a beautiful day no cloud at-all, the day was fair. —G.
