Due to the necessity ot‘ concentrating on an inter nal'education program the Mexican gov- eriiment lias not heretofore paid much attention to an eduontioual exchange. However the necessity of exchanges with tlie t^jiited States tlic Mexican government is couv'inced, so allirnied Dr. Jose Puig Casaranno, Minister of Education, in a recent speech at the Colorado School of Mines. “It is diffi cult to be enemies with tJie people that yo'u thoroughly know’ and trust” he says, and in accordance with this say ing, outlines tlie following pr6gram for the development of better international relations: 1. Interchange of students. The Mexican government lias pensioned number o'f students to continue their studies in the United States. It will take advantage of the offer of tw-enty scholarships by the Harvard Club of Mexico. It has commissioned Miss Con ception Komero James to woxk in New York to promote the interchange of stu dents. 2. Interchange of Professors. So far the o'nly interchange of this kind is with the University of Texas which de sires that Mexican professors lecture at that university and that American pro fessors give lectures in Mexico. 3. Summer Schools. Since 1921 the National University of Mexico ba: maintained a summer school for stu dents and teachers of the United States. Courses are given in Spanish thus giv’ ing students and teachers of that laii guage some real training. There will also be som^e courses in English. In addition, to courses under Mexican and American professors there w'ill b visits under the University supervision to world-fanied archaeological ruing. The visitors w'ill thus not only familiar ize themselves with the Mexican ways of living, customs and life of the coun try still sa full of latin traditions, but also with tlie ruins of the early in habitants. This portion of the Jntex national Education progran? is under the supervision of Sir Manuel Romero de Terreros, Secretary of the Summer School, UniA’ersidad Nacional de Mexi co, D. F. Resplendent students and guests filed proudly through the archway of trellis- scs decorated with smilax into the ball room of the Radisson Hotel at Minne apolis for the JunioT Ball of 1925. Weeks of preparation had been expend ed decorating for the occasion. Twenty- six flood lights banked by palms and ferns, splashed brilliantly colored light across the ceiling. Behind a raised dias, where twc orchestras w’ere stationed, an ever changing spotlight played on a drape of gold cloth. But while this ornate and highly ex pensive ball was in progress over at the Minnesota Union an affair of an en tirely different stripe was in progress. The Comnion People’s Ball. This ball i'^ a ^Minnesota tradition. Tickets for this dance were $1.50 each. The slogan of the ball is '‘Walk a Flight and save $11.00.” Placards advertising the oc casion admonished, “Wear your own clothes.” And last but not least ecoTi omv there were no flowers.
